I also use the envelope system. We put int 1/2 on the first of the month (when I get paid) and 1/2 on the 15th of the month (when DH gets paid). It works out great. No guessing and keeps the budget clean!!

Oscar Meyer Bologna five for $5

    What do you guys think???
    NewLeaf,

Those are fantastic prices! I haven't seen milk that low for ages. Here I paid $3.49/gal at Save a Lot...you saved a LOT more! Other stores here are $4+/gal. I've even seen it almost $6/gal.

Yay for you! Keep it up!

As for me, I went over budget this month by $16.17. That's not too bad. Bi Lo had strawberries for $1.79. DH and I love them so I bought 3. That was my big deal because they were $3.99 last week. Glad I waited.

February is a short month by 2 days, but it will probably be close. I'll just buy what I need and work on eating my stockpile in the freezer.

I use the envelope system and it works for me. I always find an extra $200/wk in the checking account when I do this. DH is really really going along with this. I guess it's because I'm not depriving him of his golf or Skoal and we both have blow money in our pockets, which is not normal.

Good luck to all for next month!

Okay, that settles it. I'm giving the envelope system a try next month!

I like the idea of the envelope system for groceries. I don't understand how you can do it for everything. I would go crazy if every item had its own envelope. I would also be tempted to spend it on other junk! I too will try the envelopes in Feb.

O.K., I will be going out tomorrow, first thing and getting 300 to put in my envelope. I am hoping and praying to bring the total down (this month). I do have alot of food in the cupboard and freezer so I was hoping to use that and try to stockpile as some sales come up this next two weeks.

I know its a little silly, but I almost hate to get into my stock in my freezer & cupboard....but that is what it is there for.

Thanks everyone for being so inspirational and supportive. I am not currently getting much support (except my Mom and DH). But even they are already a little tired of me talking about saving money on this and that. I am so thankful to have this forum to meet friends who understand what I am trying to do.

I allowed $450 for January and ended up spending $382.09 , so I spent $67.91 less than I allowed....I may make that $50 per week average by the end of the year with a few more cuts!!!

I made it through the day without getting any more groceries, so tomorrow is a clean slate!! I am not a fan of football, so I think I'll go out shopping while the rest of the country is parked on their couches, eating hot wings.

I will offically join this challenge. My grocery budget is getting out of hand. It started off at $400 and is now up to $500. For this month, it is set at $500 for 2 adults, 1 being VERY hungry, 2 DS's and a cat. I also include cleaning and paper supplies in that budget. My ultimate goal is to spend $500 on groceries and stockplie A Lot, for right now. When summer comes, I hope to only budget $300 and eat out of the stockpile. We will see if it happens. (TMI) Anyway, this month is budgeted at $500.

I've dropped my budget by another $15, so I have $560 to spend this month. That is for groceries, household, and pet supplies, including the addition of one bunny from last month!

I busted this month. I'm not sure the exact total yet as I haven't added everything yet. So another month another try! $450 is my goal.
