This is one challenge I love seeing people join, not because it was one I started, but because I want to see people living a life free of debt. There is nothing quite like it.

I hate debt with a passion. I can't wait to see how much debt everyone is going to get rid of in 09.

Oh Yes, I am definately IN!!!!
And it would be great to have you cheering me on!.

We are still trying to get rid of the last of Dh's student loans. The CC debt is just a high interest student loan that I put on a low interest CC, and the remaining Student loan I just combined and put it in our personal line of credit because it's interest rate was also lower.

I am so excited that I have managed to start paying down chunks and if I keep it up It should be ALL gone by next Christmas.

I am implementing all the frugal tricks I can to get this all finally GONE!

Somethings I will NOT get rid of....are the kids music lessons and kayak coaching fees.... But everything else is fair game....

    Update:

In the past few days, I've found about 50 extra dollars in the budget (overbudgeting on gasoline and utilities) per month, and have applied it split toward my student loans and a car fund. With an additional $25 per month going toward the student loans, our pay-off date has moved up 2 and a half years (not 4 months like previously posted - its so much better than that!!)! We're now set to be paid off in March 2014. My goal is still to get up to paying $300/mo by the end of the 09, and to continue growing that. Yes, making progress!

Okay everyone, it's almost Jan. 1st. You have a week to do this assignment. Then each week, I'll give you little challenges to add to your debt payment.

This week I want you to know the [B]EXACT[B] amount you owe on debt, right down to the last penny. You don't have to post it here or in your siggy. As long as you know. The only way you will get out of debt is to know what you owe.

This may sound simple, yet for many it's one of the hardest things to do. I don't care if your debt is $500, $5,000 or $500,000.00. You need to know what it is.

One week to complete this tax.

I am brand new to the forum and came across this post. We are working to pay off our car and credit card by the end of this year. That will leave us with my student loan and mortgage to pay off after that. We just paid off a credit card ($987) and my husband's laptop ($600) a couple of days ago. I'm looking forward to checking out more of the forums to see if there is anything else we can be doing to pay off our debt sooner.

As for week 1 homework...here are the results:

    Car $6651.28
    Credit Card $6939.17
Student Loan (through my MIL at 0%) $16150
    Mortgage $116,242.48

    Grand total (gulp).... $145,982.93

Mine is in my siggy also. My total is $18,188.94 includes our car. I know it will take time with one income but we will do it.
