2010 Change Jar and Penny Challenge
The New Year has begun. Time for new goals and challenges. Let's get the ball rolling on the Change Jar and Penny Challenge for 2010! I have three separate jars: one for quarters; one for nickels and dimes; and one for pennies. Just drop your coins into the jars and come back here and post your progress. What will you be saving for in 2010?

Thanks Emily! I am going to empty out my jars from 2009 and start fresh today. All my change will be going into one jar and it will be desposited into my DS's university account.

This seems like a good idea. What I'll do is start 2 jars...one for pennies, nickels and dimes only, and the other for quarters only. The quarters will go towards my EF, and the other change jar will be a savings collection for something nice like a meal out as a family.

~Last year our jar totaled $86.50. It's a small jelly jar so I wrap and deposit it all year. This year though, I want to use it toward something. Something fun for the family but I'm not sure what yet.

I save for personal fun money. Last year I was able to save $75 to get my sewing machine repaired. My goal is $50 before any can be spent.

I have a quarter one and nickels, dimes and pennies one. I have well over $200 between the both (I already have 2 full quater ones) but I'm literally saving my pennies for out vacation to NY and CT this summer so I'm not gonna open until then (June 2010). We'll see how much I can come up with until then!! I'm hoping to be able to pay for our plane tickets with it?!?!! Hey, a girl can hope

I'm in! I am saving my change for a vacation, for the boys and I! It may take a few years but at least I'm trying! I have quite a bit of change in it already, but none is wrapped! So I'm just going to continue and keep a running total for my challenge, every time I wrap and exchange it for paper money I'll add it to my total. I plan on keeping up with what I can on a monthly basis! I think I'll be able to see sunny Florida, before my kids graduate High school, LOL( They are 10 and 8 right now!)

I haven't found my jars and started yet...but I'm going to do one for pennies and one for everything else.
The pennies will go in my sons savings account and the change to my EF.

I'm in. We've been saving all our coins in a big wine jug. It's all going towards a cruise for us. Figure if we can fill it up, it'll be about $400. I'll count today.

I'm always in with this one.
I don't count the change until the jar is full. Then I cash it in at the bank and add it to our vacation spending money fund.

I like QM's idea of quarters for one thing and other change for other things. I never can decide what to do with my change. Most times I just wrap it and put it away for "something". Quite a few times,I've given it to my sister when she has gone to a foreign country for her ministry. The pennies I give to DH,I can't be bothered with them.
I think I would be more inclined to start some kind of an account if I didn't have to wrap the money first. I don't live near a bank that counts it for you. I am not comfortable with the credit unions requirement that I put my name, address, and account number on the wrappers.
I'll try to think of something.

dh has 10$1 bills in his wallet but not quite sure he would appreciate me pulling all of those out.. he he...we will see...

Saved $303.74 in change in 2009! Will keep saving change this year as well. I have no idea what I am going to do with it, right now I just put it into my personal savings account and watch it grow.
