hmcart - Do you get a discount since you work in the orthodontic field? I hope so. Tomorrow sounds like it might come with a pricey price tag if not.

That French Vanilla latte would have been worth it for me too. Calming the nerves is completely necessary in times of need. I hope your mother-in-law gets the care she needs. Hugs to you. Sounds like a very stressful day.

DH is now watching TV. I'm (as I mentioned) leaving him alone. I have a feeling he won't apologize even though he completely over-reacted. Time will tell. In that time, I folded 2 big loads of laundry. As soon as I finish this post I'll put away all the laundry. Yay!

I've been working on my to do list and grocery list a bit more today. Didn't add much more to my grocery list; however, I did add a few things to my to do list. Something I added to tomorrow's list (if I have the energy) is to iron at least 5 of DH's dress shirts that he wears to work. I'll be saving at least $16.95 including the tax if I iron them myself. Who needs to send them to the cleaners when you work from home and can save money? It'll take me probably almost an hour to properly iron them all; therefore, I'll be "earning" at least $16.95 in that hour. Woohoo for me!

For sanity purposes, I might go jump off a cliff. DH is starting to drive me c-r-a-z-y. It's hard to avoid me when he goes into the room I'm in. He is so condescending tonight. I'm impressed with my patience. If only he could be this patient with me when I need grace.

Today was going to be another day of only spending - if at all - on absolute necessities BUT - an old injury has recurred "through my fault, through my own fault, through my own most grievous fault" (!) and I need to get (a) a GP appointment (b) stronger painkillers - and a sense of humour! I will be driven to the GPs surgery, so I'll be using someone else's vehicle fuel, for which I'm grateful. Because of my "great age", within our health system, any drugs I'm prescribed, I get for free - for that I'm grateful, again.

BUT - I have to pay, up front, for specialist physiotherapy (sports injury clinic). Waiting for physio, in a general physio clinic, within the health service, would mean I would be also queueing for my own funeral, by the time THAT appointment came through.

I am thinking of the quote by Edward Teller that one of you posted, about when you come to the end of all the light you know - you will be given something solid to stand on or you will be taught how to fly. I am solidly standing on my partner putting his life on hold, today, to drive me to my GP appointment, on getting stronger painkillers - and my physio is going to teach me how to fly

Well, the tracking of money begins today. I downloaded an Excel chart from the computer that should do the trick. Hopefully it helps. Only problem is partway thru the month it starts to get discouraging. Obviously, I can't control what DH spends, so the numbers can go up, up and away...and I have no control over it. All I can do is my best. Right?

I gave DH the grocery list of things we need. Since he is able to buy half of what's on the list (he's not doing any of the price matching), he's picking up some stuff. Then when the girls are in bed, I'll probably zip on out and get the other stuff. I wish all the purchases could be bought at once and save me a trip out tonight, but what can you do?

On a positive note, I checked my c/c balance right now (DH and I have separate c/c accounts so I can see who buys what), and the balance is $233.00 and the card posts in a week. For me, that's a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Continue to do my best to buy nothing. And when I have to buy think twice and buy only what we need for the cheapest price.

Still so happy to have all of you to experience my journey with me. Thanks for listening.

Qm ~ why does DH have to buy half the groceries and you the rest later. Can you get it all yourself when the the girls are sleeping tonight?

Today should be a no spend but tomorrow will be when I pay the bills for the month. Ugh... but, all will be paid til February. .

Living on fixed income I like paying everything at once, then figuring what is left for groceries, etc.

    Good morning!

Well I already have a confession to make...I was on a discount website this morning looking to buy a black leather tote for 118.xx on sale from 198.xx...but I do not need it...it was not planned spending...so I quickly exited the site...but since my birthday is in May...maybe if I put away $40 a month of my 'blow' money and buy it for myself...was also looking for bathing suits for Sophie...for this Summer...she won't even be wearing them until June...not a need at all...or planned...feeling pretty good about walking away.

I was planning on painting a rental today, getting it ready for a new tenant. But it's freakin' cold here (12 this morning) - I have the heat off there, so painting is not an option at the moment. Have to wait for warmer temps.

So I thought, "Oh well, I will just stay home an make more crafts for sale" - but I got a call that they needed my help at the jewelry store. Oh, alright, I can always use the extra cash, and it's easy, fun work (as you can see - I am on here at the moment) lol. Then 1/2 hr later the grocery store called - "Help, we need you" - sorry, already taken... Then I got a call from one of the Mystery Shopper companies, "Can you do a few things for us today?" - Nope. (I think I need to clone myself - just imagine the possibilities)...weehee

Today will be a 'make-money' day - not a 'spend-day'. I will work til 5:30 and then drag my tired butt home, where I will park it in front of the TV & resume make crafts til bedtime. (What an exciting life I lead, huh?) - I know, but I am completely content with it - so it's all good.

I have decided to give up my hairdresser. Well, actually - my hairdresser gave up me (and everyone else) - she moved away last month to another state. So, I was adopted by her partner (who is very nice and I know her well) - but she is also $10 more expensive (making my cut/color cost $70 every 6 weeks) - so I think I need to start going back to doing it myself (the color, not the cut). I do a really good job on the color, so that is no big issue. I have been with my other hairdresser for 10 years though. It became quite a friendship more than anything thru the years, and I didn't want to give her up. Strangely enough we found out that her younger brother and my son were really good friends (she even lives in another town, but was originally from my town), she grew up in the home that I currently live in. That was pretty weird. It was like we were meant to be together from the start. I have seen her thru a marriage, 2 kids, and life in general. So it was like getting together for coffee every 6 weeks. ('cept she was making all the money -though I did get to leave the place each time looking fabulous) -

Anywho ~ I like her replacement (a lot) - but I hate paying the $70 (plus tip) each time. And now that I am getting to be really old - 6 weeks go by and I am way long overdue for color (the gray is really getting bad) - so I am thinking that I need to start coloring every 4-5 weeks. And I am not going to spend that kind of money that often. So it's time to cut the ties... ('cept for trims of course)

    - and that my friends is another "I am not buying it anymore" bedtime story.

    Did spend today

Eye glass cleaner. Big bottle $3 from eye doctor. The eye glass wearers in my family say it is a neccesity. Sure I might get it cheaper elsewhere or make some but I chose to buy from our local doc to maintain a strong relationship and to support local businesses. We also stopped in to get little miss's glasses tightened and adjusted. To many basketballs to the glasses. This is a complementary service from our eye doc.

I feel so much more goes into spending then just necessity and price.

Also picked upa catalog order two bras ( paid for in December) little miss is growing up so fast. One on came and no refund showed up. The people called customers service and I think recordered anothe one. So now I have to keep and eye out tor the bra and refund charges or possible extra charges. Ugh! Now I remember why I dislike shopping

Like so many others, I did spend today: it was reward time for the agony, pain and suffering of the torn ligament and the exhaustion of hobbling on crutches. So after the trip to the GP (for stronger painkillers) we stopped at a favourite coffee shop and had coffee and . . . cake. CAKE - my nemesis!

Start again tomorrow; no looking back - and since we can't undo the "mistakes" of the past, all we can do is look to the future.

Oh: and we did spend, but it was on the Warmth&Shelter elements of basic need: more insulation for part of the house roof. That's not frivolity, no sir.

And apparently I was so frustrated that I could not type. Sorry about that. I fixed mistakes in the quote above if you need easier reading.
