Safeway has updated their rewards program and it looks interesting. You can choose to spend rewards points on free grocery items instead of gas savings. It looks interesting enough to persuade me to shop there more regularly.

We got our beef today! I'm leaving my average as of last week and I will update at the end of my week but I do think I'm just going to throw the whole amount on there. Dh suggested averaging the $1,500 over the year but I already average things out so it will eventually all work itself out. Last week I had to buy diapers and paper towels (which are an absolute necessity with a toddler, puppy and kitten). I also had to provide pizza, snacks and lunch for my g/f nephews during my oldest sons sleepover birthday party, so glad my kids are not g/f! I ended last week at $165 so an average of $307. It will shoot up after this week but eventually it will fall back to normal looking.

I just spend half of the week's grocery budget and forgot the groceries in the bus on my way home.

I went over in August and would love for September to be way under to make up for it and to keep my yearly average intact, however, with the kids going back to school, I'm not sure how that's possible. While we could fudge it with lunches during the summer and eat leftovers and whatnot, packing lunches and snacks increases the grocery bill significantly.

Okay, so, my plan was to be way under budget this week, however, they had some amazing back to school sales, and so I went ahead and stocked up, which should bring me well under for next week. However, I only spent $214.49, which is pretty amazing for the amount that I bought. I saved $76.45 in sales and coupons, so I'm feeling pretty good about it. I don't always post everything I got, but today I will because I'm feeling good about the sales. Just a reminder, this is for 6 people who eat all three meals and snacks from home, each day.

10 PowerAde bottles (normally $1.00 each, on sale for $0.69 each if you buy 10...for my hockey player and soccer player, these are really good for replenishing electrolytes, and I don't usually buy them, but I may go back for 10 more later in the week because it's a great price for a large bottle)
Persil liquid detergent - normally $6.29, with coupon $4.99 (I used to buy generic detergent, but nothing quite gets the sports stink out like Persil)
5 cans sweet whole kernel corn - normally $0.79 per can, on sale for 5/$3
2 large cans of cream of mushroom soup - $2.79 each
4 Pure Protein bars (my snack at school) $1.25 each
    1 large box Bisquick - $7.99
    1 box ShopRite quick rice - $3.49
6 boxes Quaker chewy granola bars - normally $2.99 a box, on sale for $1.66 a box (2 of the boys love these in their lunchbox...stocked up)
3 boxes Frosted Flakes (I don't usually buy sugar cereal, but it was a great deal and I usually do a back to school treat breakfast in week one...then back to special k) normally $3.79 a box, on sale for $1.66 a box if you bought 3
2 large boxes of Jolly Time single sized microwave popcorn healthy pop (not on sale, but they have free Redbox codes, and my kids eat popcorn like it's going out of style and the single serve are a great after school snack, and by buying these, I haven't spent a dime in the Redbox in months) $3.79 each
2 boxes snack packs of Famous Amos cookies - nomrally 5.99 each, with coupon and on sale for $3.49 each (lunch snacks)
1 large bag ShopRite popcorn kernels (for nighttime popcorn making in the air popper) $3.79
4 ShopRite mandarin orange cup 4 packs - normally $2.39 each, on sale for 1.88 each (lunch snacks)
2 packets brown gravy mix - normally $0.99 each, on sale for $0.69 each
2 boxes CheezIts - normally $4.49, on sale and with coupon $2.30 each
2 large boxes Special K - normally $5.39 each, on sale and with coupon for $4.49 each...not a super deal, but it's what we eat and they still don't make a generic Special K
1 pack of ShopRite hamburger buns - normally $1.49, on sale $1.00
1 loaf of bread, normally $3.69 a loaf, on sale for $1.84 a loaf
2 enormous sirloin steaks - normally $19.16, on sale and with coupon $14.68 ($7.34 each vs $9.58 each) (I'm going to be cutting out steaks except for maybe once a month...everyone loves them, but the cost! )
6 smaller steaks - normally $2.06 each, on sale for $1.36 each
2 four packs of 80% burgers - normally $5.51 each, on sale for $4.14 each
1 family pack of chicken tenderloins $6.52
    1 large package of strawberries - $3.99
    1 package raspberries - $3.99
    2.31 lbs red peppers $4.60
    1 pint blueberries $3.99
2 bunches of grapes - normally $5.77 each, on sale and coupon for $2.29 each - great price for grapes around here!
    1 blackberries - $3.76
    1 large country crock margarine - $4.49
1 large box GoGurt - normally $4.99, on sale and coupon made it $3.49 (not great, but I send a frozen one in two of the boys lunchboxes and they keep the rest of the lunch cold, and by lunchtime, they are defrosted enough to eat)

Went way over again by almost $60 but I did stock up on ground chuck, about 30#'s worth so all of the overage was because of that. Still going to keep $275 as my target, food only 3 adults.
