MaryinFL, I do the same thing. Look at freezer and pantry first. We have bread, bacon, and tomatoes, so there will be sandwiches. Burger and fish patties in the freezer, I just need buns. Frozen corn and leftover bbq pork sounds like a meal. Just need milk, sweetener, cat food, and a few other things this week. I really want a spinach salad and it is on sale, so I will get that.

Hm, $160 budget for month, I already spent about $60 ($16 was for vitamins recommended by doctor). And was planning to place a Target order. This week's menu is mostly chicken. Got a large sack of potatoes to use.

I purchased a lot last month and will do the same as Mary. Let's see how low the supplies get. My guess is that it won't take long. Right now, some chicken and ribs are thawed. I may make chicken parm as we haven't had that in a long time.

I placed a Target pantry order today so definitely going over budget this month. Several items were too cheap to pass up though. 20-pack of batteries and my protein bars were rather pricey. Everything will be used. It is odd they won't ship certain things though - waxed paper for instance. Weird.

Sunday looks like a grocery day. I see a lot of the school lunch items on sale - peanut butter and jelly for example. Definitely going to exceed the month's budget.

$45 over grocery budget already....hope I can avoid the store next week. I do have some things in the freezer.

We are strictly fridge and freezer for the next 5 days. Not leaving anything in the fridge to rot, might as well throw money away. The freezer is full of leftovers and half-a-package-of this-n-that. The menu may look a little odd, but we won't waste anything.

I agree to the using of what's in the house. I'll try a couple new recipes and only need a couple things for them. Otherwise, it's time to defrost and come up with new ideas.

September off to good start as I have only bought a few "fill-in" items. Got $5 gift card at Target for getting my flu shot there and used it on a few groceries.

Half way through Sept and spent less than half of grocery budget. Bought a few pantry items on sale in addition to what I need to take to picnic, and meat for this week.

Apparently hubby went to CVS today, his register receipt had coupons for $4 off $20 purchase, $5 Extrabucks and $8 Extrabucks. So I can buy $20 of stuff for $3......guess I need to plan a CVS stop one day. I started putting together a Target pantry order also: tuna, craisins, cotton swabs and so on.

Last week's grocery trip was a little high and we ate out a couple times on top of that. Quick scan of the freezer shows chicken, chicken, and more chicken. Plus tilapia, hot dogs, turkey tenderloins, ground pork, and meatballs. Frozen corn, frozen beans and rice, frozen cauliflower, and frozen edamame. Fridge has lettuce, broccoli, apples, pears, sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini, cabbage, and brussels sprouts. I have onions and garlic from the garden, tomatoes and peppers still coming. We are good on bacon, butter, milk, bread, tortillas, and cat food. I haven't looked at the pantry, but sure the basics are there.
I'm thinking I don't need to shop this week. That's enough to feed a crowd and we are only two.
I got $5 extrabucks and a $1 EB at cvs this week, too. Spent it immediately, since they don't last long.

Dinner is always a challenge and our schedules sometimes means that half of us eat something I'm preparing but the other half may need to eat sooner, so they fend for themselves. I try to prepare in advance, if possible.
The frozen food can be dwindled down. If I don't feel like cooking, we have some gift cards to use. One kid left $1.01 on a GC. Why?!
My food shopping costs were way over budget in August, but September is better as I've been more careful.- August = $634
Sept- $274 so far

Budget is good so far. Safeway is having a big sale with items priced at $.50, I am really tempted to stockpile. I have storage space. I hope I have time to go on Sunday.

Placed a Target order today. I have a major cookie-baking effort coming up for the dog club's open house Oct 21 and needed a few baking supplies in addition to the usual. I was craving microwave popcorn today but discovered I was out.
