So much for savings plans....  I've had a "life happens" week and had to buy 4 new tires today.  That is going to pull a chunk out of savings and probably prevent any going in next month, which is disappointing. But after paying little attention to my tires (ok, ok, I do know better), at a regular car maintenance yesterday I was told they were at the point of being dangerous in rain. I checked for myself after I drove home -- never trust the guy with an estimate for the new tires already in his hand -- but, yup, he was right, and hydroplaning is way too scary to put it off a single day. Our spring rains have already begun.

He also gave me the downer news that the next maintenance is "one of the two big ones" and I'm looking at around $300. Yikes! But it was decent of him to warn me, and I have 5000 miles to work on that!

Oh, and the notice this morning that my rent is going up next month.... but I've been expecting that one.

So I'll have to do a damage assessment and update the figures in a few days. But I WILL catch up! At least I had it there when I needed it.

Our savings challenge really steps up a gear from the 15th. We test drove a car a couple of weeks ago... so the aim is to buy that in 2 years (cost £16,000). The plan is to save £250 each month into each ISA (which is £6000 per year). Then additional savings for the car will go with the savings I make go into our other fund - the "real" emergency fund.

It will be quite tight but also I think quite fun to see if we can save this much. We'll see!

I put my allotted $30 into my "Un- Frugal Fund" Since I already have a 1 yr expenses funded in a secure EF and a few grand in an EF easily reached. I thought it would be nice to have an account that I could be un-frugal with.
