That's a great idea. I usually leave my ball of yarn in the tote/project bag and pull out a few yards at a time. This prevents extra pet hair from joining the project as well as quell any interest in the "toy," as my dogs would view it.

I have old BIG butter containers that I poked a hole in the middle of the lid, and made a slice so I can remove the yarn so I can store a project, without having to cut the yarn.

I have seen people use teapots, but it wouldn't work well for me because I change projects/colors/my mind too often

What I would REALLY like to own (have borrowed others, but, it's not the same as having your own) bowl.

    Bamboo Yarn Bowl

I saw this the other day but forgot about it. It wouldn't be too difficult to make with the right tools.

I keep my yarn in a clear plastic jar on the floor next to me. I think the container had pretzels in it once, it's about 18 inches tall. Works better than a shorter container where the yarn used to pop out.

I have a yarn bowl and do not use it very often, if at all.

I had picked up a yarn 'jar' that's the size of a large pretzel jar with a lid that has a hole in the middle. It's specifically made to keep yarn in while working on a project. I'm not sure where I put it. I should find it and use it.

For holding a WIP while not working on it, I generally put it in one of those 'recycleable' grocery/Target bags. Someone once used an old pillow case for that purpose.

Oh, it reminds me a Chinese proverb: Eight Immortals, recount! I learned so much here from all of you, and would do some improvement to help my mom knit more smoothly!!

i so want a yarn bowl...but i know i probably wouldn't use it very often because i'd forget about it or my ball of yarn would be too big or i'd forget where i put it.

i mostly just unwind a little at a time.
