Default fungus gnats on my violets - help

I've got a dish with vinegar and oil.....one dead! bought the yellow strips, and I've read that cinnamon sprinkled on top will drive them away.

    Any other suggestions?

Are you calling fungus gnats what I called 'fruit flies' last summer?

This is what I was told when I posted ---2 cups water w/2 T sugar with 2 T white vinegar and couple drops of liq. dish soap. Mix and pour into lids/etc. and leave in area.

They (the bugs I had) are in the dirt of the plants so if you can identify which plant and re-pot it - that will help. I washed off the roots of one plant really good - re-potted it. One plant I just tossed as I didn't like it anyway. Think my bamboo might have them and it will get redone when it gets warmer.

Nasty little critters ---and when you catch one just 'fresh' out they smell like fresh dirt!! Hard to get rid of too!!

I had 'reasonable' luck with the yellow strips........cut them down.

Take your violets outside and repot them removing as much of the old potting soil as possible. Then don't water them so much.

VL - just thought of something else......you raise orchids don't you?

Do you keep them on a water filled 'pebble tray'? Those gnats will hatch/nest in that water. That could be where some of them are coming from. If so, wash the trays really good. See if you see a bunch of 'white specs' in the water.......

I have to wash my 'pebbles' off with really hot water. I should do it every week - but don't, and I pay the 'gnat price' for it too.
