Thank you for this recipe, we are going buggy here too!!! When my hands are wet at the kitchen sink I will catch the fruit flies as they fly by. They stick to my wet hands and down the drain I rinse them. I can't do this all day though and they keep multiplying.

Thanks for bumping this up. We don't have any at the moment, but a week ago we had a bunch. Next time, I'll try your solution.

Well, since fresh fruits and veggies got so expensive, I don't have many fruit flies, but I'll keep that recipe just in case...thanks!

    Default Fruit Flies

A little OJ in a glass works well too.
I discovered this completely by accident when DS left a half glass of it on the counter overnight.

I did a search because I know I had posted about this before. Here is a copy of my thread and the link to it. HTH

Mix the following ingredients together in an open jar or other container (the quantities are relative to how many flies you're trying to get rid of):

    1/2 qt water (2 c)
    2 T sugar
    2 T (white) vinegar
a couple drops of liquid dishsoap
Leave the mixture sitting out in the infested area, as long as needed.

Take a glass jar with a metal lid (I've used baby food jars, when my kids were little) and use a hammer and nail to make some holes in the top. Drop a piece of banana in the bottom and put the lid on.

They can get in to eat, but they aren't smart enough to get back out! I would think you could use a glass or tupperware with plastic wrap on top. As long as you make the holes small enough so they can't get back out!

I use an empty mayo jar with a few inches of apple cider vinegar in it. I make a funnel out of a paper plate or piece of paper with a very small hole at the narrow end. Then I set it in the jar so the tip is about halfway down the inside of the jar or low but not touching the cider vinegar. Then trim the top of it off even with the top of the jar and tape it. Because I tape it at the top, the flies get in but can't get back out again. Eventually they drown in the cider vinegar. I have to set one of these jars in a couple areas in the house to get those bugs! When I can't stand it anymore, I empty the jars out and make new funnels, etc. It doesn't take long to attract and catch most all of the fruit flies but it seems they live quite a while before drowning in the vinegar.

I have an old glass mayo jar that I saved. You put in some water and some rotten fruit (whatever you have works, even a banana peel or apple peels). Put a square of plastic wrap over the top and secure with a rubber band (or string if not rubber band, but becareful so you can take the string back off, do a slip knot or something). Poke a few holes in the plastic wrap with a pencil. You want smaller holes. They will crawl in the holes and drowned in the water.
