Tell Me What You Think?
Here goes...
I just posted an album of pics I've taken of new recipes I've tried. I would love some honest opinions. It's currently a hobby of mine, but I don't have any real feedback. So, if you don't mind taking a peek and letting me know what you think? Thanks!

I think they're AMAZING. Everything looks delicious and you're a talented photographer. Great with food styling, too.
Please tell me what camera, lens, etc you use to shoot your photos. I always like to know that info on nice photos. Helps me learn. I'm a newbie with photography. I've taken one class and 1000 bad photos. LMAO I'm kidding, but I'm definitely still learning.

I think the pictures look pretty good, and most of the food looks tasty, too. However, having looked at a lot of food porn myself, you seem to be missing "something". I'm not sure, but I think your lighting can be improved -- and I don't know that much about it to say how, still learning myself. Also, some of the images seem a bit too cropped. I know that's done for effect, but some images seem kind of squeezed.
A couple places the food doesn't look that great. I'd eat any of it, but for example, the almond slices on the carrot fingers are all different sizes. They picture would look better , IMO, if you had selected some slices of the same size for your photograph. Also, the root beer float looks a bit deflated. Compare it to this image:

Darn it, now I need to go get some root beer...Last edited by Contrary Housewife; 02-16-2009 at 07:51 PM.
Stop trying to organize all of your family’s crap. If organization worked for you, you’d have rocked it by now. It’s time to ditch stuff and de-crapify your world.
If you're not using the stuff in your home, get rid of it. You're not going to start using it more by shoving it into a closet.

Make it do, Or do without. ~unknown

Thank you for your kind words. Believe it or not, they were all taken with my old Sony Mavica Steady Shot with only 2.1 megapixels. LOL That accounts for the overall graininess I think. I'm in the process of trying out newer cameras now, so hopefully some of that will disappear.

CH - thank you for your input. Here's the problems/situations I was having: I was using natural lighting only through the good ole windows in my home, so different times of day, different lighting. See, I was shooting the pics right before we were eating them. LOL
You're right, the cropping was either done for effect and/or to cut out imperfections (the dirty dish I left in the background, etc ha ha)
The almond slices...the veggie fingers were made literally 10 minutes before the guests arrived for my daughter's costume party, so I admit they certainly could have been more uniform and perhaps staged more consitently.
The root beer float however....I love that pic because it is a real root beer float. The majority of pics that are taken for ice cream are not made with ice cream at all, so obviously don't melt, etc. This one, however melted almost immediately given the fact that it was summer and I had my teenage daughter standing over me licking her chops! LOL
Thanks again for your input. I went back and looked at them again with your suggestions and I can see where there's room for improvement.

They are even more amazing knowing that! Ohhh I can imagine you with a nice Nikon, macro lens, tripod and lighting. You'll be even more fabulous! I love food pics. I'm still learning perspective and lighting with food. I took a photo of soup not long ago that made it look quite pukey. LOL I couldn't even post it. My rice macro shot made it look like maggots. LOL I wish I had more time to learn, but am so busy with work. I just try to read and learn in my spare time and take my camera with me when we all go out. I dream about affording lenses someday.
I think it's very inspirational you shared your hobby. It shows you can have fun and learn without a professional digital camera.

Ok....I'll give you that one! LOL What I've notice through trial and error is that with items like rice...try using an ice cream scoop to "pile" it onto a small plate...then garnish. Kind of like here...
Same concept, except I used a bowl.
Thanks for the laugh!
BTW...you mentioned posting your pics, where do you post them?

I haven't posted many. And for good reason! haha I add them to my photo gallery here sometimes. All of the photos I've posted here are taken with my Kodak Easyshare. I read about photography a lot, but something gets a little lost from text to camera. haha
Without a doubt, photography is my new focus (haha). Other areas just have to be scaled down so I can make room for it.
I knew that rice pic was bad, but my family ate it before I had a chance to even attempt anything other than a closeup. LOL
