I was surprised reading comments on their site today, how most people don't have a manual grain grinder, or even an electric one. After I started my 'self-sufficient library' I noticed how ALL spoke of staple foods (rice, corn, wheat) and a way to store whole for longevity. That's all fine, but I want bread, muffins, and maybe a cookie if things fall apart in a big way - so after the "library" I spent money on grains and a Country living Mill (non-electric, can be modified to a bike - if you need a lot) it's a nice arm warm up if you need 5 cups or so for bread. I did not have time for breadmaking with 12 hours spent outside the home today, but I could have (grill, oven on top of Rocket stove, camping grill, gas oven, heck, a fire pit in the front yard with Dutch oven, I could probably manage).
All in all I did fairly well this week. I need to learn more about celiac/gluten free living, I also need to be more involved in our financial picture. We have water, but I think we'll add more aquatainers. Need to replace the 72 hour food kit. - oh, and keep learning things every day!

Funny this should come up. I.M.Cheap and I just received our Victorio manual grain mill today. It's not huge or anything but I think it should meet our needs nicely. We've been laying in quite a bit of wheat in #10 cans as of late.

Imagine - thank you for the recipes!

I agree, our adaptability will be the #1 determining factor in whether or not we thrive after a world-changing event. I like to think I'm pretty darned adaptable considering all of the craziness my family has been through.

One thing I realized is that I need to download a lot of the valuable survival info that I have stored on my computer. If the grid is down I need to still be able to access all this stuff. Sometimes I just skim information and save it to my hard drive. It would be a shame if that was all for naught!

Good reminding Daisy - I've got 3 or 4 shelf stable ecookbooks that I have yet to print, as well as "Where there is No Doctor" hiding somewhere in the gigabytes. . .

Thanks for joining me in the prep-tests!!
