Question Do you carve the pumpkin or.....

Cut them up and use the insides for making pumpkin pies, pumpkin bread, etc.

Along with the insides of the pumpkin, you can take out the seeds and roast them in the oven. They are delicious.

We were given a large pumpkin this weekend. In a couple days I plan on cutting it up and saving every bit I can. Pumpkins really are a frugal veggie. Everytime I see one carves up for Halloween, I want to get out of the van and run and get it. Of course by then, its usually burnt inside.

It depends. The two aren't exclusive of each other, so sometimes I do both, by cutting the day of or day before Halloween, then bringing it inside ASAP and cutting it up. I also sometimes just paint the pumpkin and kep it whole.

Of course, those jack-o-lantern pumpkins aren't really the tasties by any means, but they can make a decent pumpkin soup.

I usually carve a pumpkin, and then roast the seeds. We don't like pumpkin here otherwise, so the rest doesn't get used.

This year the kids are participating in a pumpkin decorating contest, so they'll be decorating them, and then maybe we'll cut them for the seeds--if they can part with their artwork

Used to carve it up when the kids were younger. Our house can't be seen from the road & I just keep them whole.
May have to have some fun and have a carving tournament with Jack. I'm gonna do it! That old fart had better participate and not grumble, or else!

We get a couple big ones to carve and a few small ones for cooking. Luckily, my mom has a large garden so she gives us as many as we can carry home.

After we carve the pumpkin, I try to use as much of it as I can --- roast the seeds, cook the carved out pulp, etc. One year we had friends over to help carve and made pumpkin pie to boot.

When I was a kid, we drew on the faces. My mother would cut it up after Halloween and freeze it and make things with it (pumpkin bread, etc).

We usually get 2 one to carve and one to cook. I have been very luck that I have many friends who paint theirs so they give them to me after Halloween.

I have done both. One year a friend of mine was in the pumpkins, we spent an entire day cooking and freezing. I think a year later we still had pumpkin in our freezers! I haven't done that in a few years but I still buy a few to decorate our yard. Maybe this year I will do something with them.

I cook the sugar pumpkins for pumpkin pies and pumpkin bread/muffins.

We carve the bigger pumpkins for fun.

Usually we carve them and save the seeds to roast.. The past two years I have even had volunteers that came up in the area where we had carved them before Halloween...

Have fun Darlene and you better post pictures!

Been in this house 17 years now and have only had a pumpkin for Halloween the first 2 years here. No children came as we are back quite a ways and very dark driveway, so I haven't done it since. With just Jack and I, I buy pumpkin in the can, plenty for what we use it for.
