Question Do you pick up the penny?

I'm starting to find it a bit bizarre. Every single day I find at least one penny to pick up off the ground. Some days I find 14 cents, other times I've found a couple hundred (new game teens are playing, bouncing pennies from a roll on the sidewalk). What surprises me, is that I seem to be the only one to pick them up (even the huge pile of pennies scattered on a pedestrian bridge, people walked on by). I've asked my friends and they just shrug and say no, "it's just a penny". Well, I now have a huge jar full (20 pounds worth) of all my "found gold" and it adds up!

I like picking up pennies, I consider it good luck. Every time I pick one up I make a wish. Some people might consider pennies from the ground to be "dirty", but seriously, we have no idea where the money we get back in change has been. I just wash my hands all the time, regardless.

What blows me away is how so many people dismiss the value of a penny. I feel like shouting "Hello people! It's money!" I think it speaks to a deeper issue of how many people don't watch the pennies, and consequently the dollars run out the door!

Anyway, I'm going to continue making my good luck wishes and picking up pennies. What are your thoughts?

I always pick up pennies. They go into Mr. Wesley's college fund.

What is that saying--take care of the pennies and the dollars take care of themselves.

I work in a high school cafeteria. I am picking up change almost daily. They will drop it and are to lazy to bend down and pick it up but I do. Some of the students do not like to have coins for change so they just tell us to keep it. FREE money there no work at all.
I saved all of the coins I picked up off of the cafeteria floor for a school year and I had over $5 in change. Heck one day I found a $5 bill all rolled up on the floor.

They janitors find way more money than we do. They say the find change all over the building.

Yeah, I'm a penny picker-upper. I found a $20 in the restroom of my office once. I posted a note in the bathroom re: found money - call to identify. No calls. Wish I were rich enough to lose $20 and not notice!!

Pennies from heaven! My grandfather used to sing that tune all the time. Now when I find a penny on the ground I look up and thank him.
I found out from my DD 15 that the kids throw away change because of some rap song. Part of the lyrics speaks of n*** don't carry no change. Well I'll open the car door at a stop light and pick up pennies out of the street.
I feel the same as others its free money. My family will tellyou that when I walk out of a store my head down because I'm walking along looking at the ground for money.
I keep it in a jar in my food pantry and it adds up like last week when I needed extra money and we rolled the change jar. $103.00 dollars. DD comes out and announces "we must be poor your rolling change." But she knows it'll get us throught to the next pay day. She's gotten real good at jumping out of the passager door at lights and picking up the penies out of the gutter. We announce what we see, gum wrappera, cig butts, wheel weights, etc..
Simple pleasures for simple minds lol

I only pick the penny up if DD hasn't beat me to it

I read recently they are going to change the look of the penny soon. I don't know if that will slow down our 'copper collecting' much.

I always do too. Some people don't think it's worth it but they add up!

That's a good way to look at it. Yes I always look for and pick up any money. The guys at work always throw pennies on the floor. It goes right into our change jar.+=

Sure do! My mom & I have penny wars in parking lots. People must think we're nuts! She has an advantage now though since I'm prego.
