In regards to the 2 liters going flat..There are these things called "fizz keepers." There are lots of different varieties and price ranges. I've seen them in grocery stores/drug stores and they can be as cheap as $2 or as much as $15.

You can get them on ebay for a reasonable price if you can't find them in stores.

I've never used them personally because we don't buy pop regularly enough to buy one.

We don't drink a lot of soda (pop) either. When we have a party, I get the store brand 3-liters for ~$1.00.

They still have them in Central NJ / Union Co. The SR regular colas are usually wiped out when I just so happen to need them.

But I don't drink pop (soda). I usually drink Crystal Light, water or beer.
Thanks Russ for the math breakdown, I was to tired to do it and was hoping someone else would!! It seems the difference is not TOO bad...but the winner is 2ltrs for me!!
You have to do the breakdown on how many ounces you are actually using. If you throw out half of the 2 liter because it went flat, then the cost changes to .029/oz, which makes it more expensive than a 12 pack.

Or, you can just squeeze the 2 liter to remove as much air as possible.

You could always download the Frugal app from the Apple Store and use it to compare the two.

I buy 12 pks because of the "flat factor". It doesn't take long for a 2 ltr bottle to get flat, then I have to throw it away. Besides, there are only 3 of us here now & one doesn't drink pop much.

If I want a pop I have to drink diet. I use the ones with Splenda. I wish they would start making it with Stevia which is what I use at home for coffee & tea.

For us the 12 pks are more frugal because the 2 liters go flat. It's just hubby and I now, and I drink diet and he drinks regular soda. Each of us only drinks a glass with dinner.. so the 12 pks are definitely better for us.
