Quilting club members - tutorial news - PLEASE READ
I've done some more on the Ohio Star tutorial. Once that block is finished, I will be doing a tutorial on the Log Cabin.
For that block, you will need to decide what color you want in the middle, yellow or red (your choice), but it must be either one or the other color.
You will need 4 light colors and 4 dark colors. If you wish, you can use some of your lights and some of your darks you are already using in your blocks, or you can use new colors. Because its a sampler, it doesn't matter, BUT to pull all the quilt together, you might want to use some material you've already used.
The tutorial following that will be the Card trick. It looks hard, but is simple really because you've learnt some of the tricks already. For that you'll need 4 different colors, but colors that blend well together. If you decide on prints, find 2 prints and then 2 dark colors that go with the prints.
Because I don't exactly know how much material you'll need, pick up a few fat quarters or use from your stash.
Will also be making the wishing star, and a few others I have up my sleeves, but I'm not giving those away for now.

Michelle, my plan is to do 10. The Ohio Star is the 5th one and I have 5 more planned. That way if anyone wants to make a queen size quilt, they can make 2 blocks of each.
I plan on having all the tutorials done by the end of Sept. and posted and then will start working on the borders, sashing, etc. so that the quilts will be done by Christmas (unless someone is hand quilting it).
After this quilt is finished, then starting the new year, I'll do some more advanced tutorials so that if anyone wants to learn other techniques, they can.
How does that sound?

Sounds good to me.
I'm trying to figure out what all the blocks are. I need to really get my butt in gear because I'd like to make one for my mother for Christmas and one for my brother's wedding (next summer).
So let's see:
- 9 Patch
- Churn Dash
- Bachelor's Puzzle
- Jacob's Ladder
- Ohio Star
- Log Cabin
Which others?

Okay, a bit of a change here. I just started working on the tutorial here and realized that the Log Cabin is pretty hard to get a 12 1/2 inch block and do it right, so my plans are to do it in this order:
- log cabin (which will be an extra block just as the jar block so that everyone can then do a log cabin quilt whenever they want to)
- card trick
- Wishing star
- air castle
- Dutchman's puzzle (flying geese)
- Four patch (very, very simple block)
I've started working on the Log Cabin this afternoon and will have that one finished tonight. I need to pick up some film on the weekend, and by next weekend, I'll have all the blocks finished and pictures taken.
I'll then have Sara scan them and will be ready to start the tutorial on the log cabin.
Over the next couple of days, I'll have the Ohio Star tutorial finished.

I love the Air Castle one, but the Wishing Star looks really tough!

Michelle, the wishing star I'm teaching is a simple block!!
Please note - That is not the same wishing star we are doing. Please don't panic when you see this one.
It would be almost impossible to teach that one on the computer. There are so many I'd love to teach, but you need templates and its almost impossible to do those (especially for me) on the computer.

Whew, that was scary! That is a beautiful block, but it looks a little intimadating. I am glad to hear that it was not the one we are going to be making.
