repurposing tights?
A friend of ours helped a friend of hers clear out his mother's house to sell. She brought Dd several boxes of fabric and patterns. One box had a bunch of knit winter tights that are really nice except for one thing. Someone has cut the elastic waistbands off of all of them. The tights otherwise look brand new. We were wondering if we could re-do the waistbands and also if we could make some kind of band and make knee socks out of some of them.
Any thoughts?

You would have to add fabric back at the waistline to attach the elastic too, but for wearing under other clothing it wouldn't show.
You might be able to use lingerie elastic to make thigh-high stockings.

here is a tutorial/blog post and how to turn tights into socks
Frugal Fix: Tights to Socks
I think you might be able to do the same elastic thing/ or something similar to the top of the tights if you still wanted to keep them as tights.

~Tights like thick pantyhose are great for storing rolls of wrapping paper and bolts of fabric.~

Thanks for the ideas and the links. I think we're going to either fix the waistbands or make knee socks out of the nice colors. Some are weird and neither of us would wear them. Not sure what we'll do with those yet.

You can bleach, dye, cut in strips and hook rug with them too!
But that's probably more work than you want to go to.
Hope the others were able to help you.

It probably is! I've never tried rug hooking. We prefer to try and fix them to wear because we were just wishing we had some good, warm tights and knee socks!
