    Question Who has a serger......

and what do you make with it?

I have 2 (but only use 1 of them). I make all of the clothing I sew with them and a lot of the home decor items. I love finished seams!!!

I also use it for napkin edging (rolled hems) and decorative stitching.

I have also recycled a lot of old towels this way too!!

    How about you?

I don't have one, but maybe if I bug my mom enough, she might purchase me one. (nasty heh!!!)

I can pretty much do most of the finished stitches with my sewing machine because its computerized and has most of the finishing stitches. The reason I would like to have a serger though is because then I could use it basically for sewing our clothes and household items and my sewing machine I now have could be for quilting. It is a pain to have to put my quilting items away and change needles, etc. when I want to sew, kwim..

Yes I do CJ, I have mine side by side.

You can't do everything with a serger, i.e. put in a darts, zippers, buttonholes, or baste a seam. It works great with knit fabrics and I use it to put in elastic instead of making a casing and trying to thread it through.

Yes, I love my serger. You can whip out the fastest t-shirts and summer shorts with a serger. Mine has a differential feed, and I use it to gather ruffles for the pillows I sew (if the fabric is light enough). Mine is a Babylock that i've had for about 12 years!

I agree Scrappycat, T-Shirts, shorts, nightgowns, sweatshirts are a breeze to make with a serger!
