I agree that Firefox is a much better option than IE...I absolutely can't tolerate IE...

This is the ONLY site that I currently visit that bothers me with how it loads.

I know the ad at the bottom of the page drives me nuts.

Sometimes I see the FACEBOOK slows down the page load.

Just today, I watched and saw it was the TWITTER that was slowing things down. It stalled the page for awhile.

I have DSL through my phone connection. If I used dialup, I would never be able to load any pages on this site.

Yes I use IE, windows XP and have downloaded the version 8 recently.

I understand firefox and had to download it on my old machine but that was because of a ebay problem that I had years ago.

I don't see why I need to download FIREFOX just so I can use this site better. All my other sites are fine. None of the others hang up and or stall like these pages on this site

For example, on ebay, I can load a page with 200 auctions on it, and all the pictures load up fine and fast.

And this was a recent problem that I ran into.
I got the message at top of my window and checked it out.
    -------------------
" How does Internet Explorer help protect me from cross-site scripting attacks?
Internet Explorer's Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) Filter can help prevent one website from adding script code to another website. XSS Filter watches how websites interact, and when it recognizes a potential attack, it will automatically block script code from running. When this happens, you will see a message in the Information bar letting you know that the webpage was modified to help protect your privacy and security.

If the modified webpage does not work properly, try going to the home page of the website and navigating to the webpage directly. If the page still does not work correctly, contact the website's administrator. "

Ebay has a yearly budget of Billions$$$$ and they have a farm of over 15,000 servers powering their sites. Here is an article from 2006.
EBay Seeks Grid Standards as It Expands Massive System - Computerworld

I'm sure they have over 20,000 servers right now.

    Frugalvillage runs on 1 server.

I did some tweaks, lets see how things go for the next few days. Feel free to post any negative or positive comments to this thread.

We'll be turning off some features for those members that aren't optimized to view this site or have issues with work controls that prevent them from viewing things properly. No one HAS to use firefox. But explorer is an inferior browser, so if members are having issues, that's the first thing they can do to help.

I have never had any trouble with FV using Chrome. Maybe that will help those of you still having trouble with Firefox? I know very little about computers, so I'm just sharing my experience here.

While I do appreciate all the bells and whistles and the work it takes to install, I come to FV for tips, tricks and ideas to make life cheaper. If they go away and it makes FV faster so people enjoy the site more, you have my support 100%.

The site could definitely get some improvements.
I will look at it more in depth tonight and see what drags the loading of the page. A great plugin to trouble shoot this in firefox is firebug.

I will also cross check with google tools.

We'll continue to remove some features that we think are causing the most bloat for members. You should see some improvement already. It's faster for me and I wasn't having any troubles before.

I downloaded Firefox last night and it is much, much improved.
Now if I can only get Robform to work with it. (sigh)

Thank you for getting rid of that bottom ad.

Maybe you can start a paid subscription to this site --
    ad free , version ?

I really like this site. That is why when someone asks what problems we are having, I start typing when I am frustrated.

If I did not care about this site....trust me....I would have been gone a long time ago. I care.

Ebay I know has the money to do things. I like to put up auctions when the mood strikes me and or when I am in need of some extra money. Does not mean I like that site or how they do things. It still has a lot of people looking there to buy items.
I just used them as a example of how a page loads. If I did not have DSL, I don't think I could load pages there very well with dial up. It got more and more frustrating as time went on.

    Again thanks

Well, I didn't want to be a complainer and I was getting very frustrated and I use Firefox, but thank you. This site is running fast for me now and I'm not having issues like I did.

    Thank you.
