Why are my posts still zero? I'm just wondering?

Posts in the general chat forum are not counted towards your post count.

Why is that? You would think that if any user wanted to build up a "post-count", that they might just avoid that section for the sake of building a count. Not to say the users on here would do that, but to me it is interesting that the general area doesnt count - even though it is no different than any other section of the forum.

It encourages members to select the proper forum for their posts rather than just post it in general chat. This is a common problem on a forum this large. It can be frustrating for members (especially longstanding members) to see posts in the incorrect forum. It also doesn't inflate a member's forum credibility (post count) if the majority of what they post is in general chat. Post counts within this community are something earned by participating in the forum overall and not just general discussion threads. So to new people, it might look like general chat is the same as any other forum, but I can assure you that it's not. And while I don't want to place less value on members that primarily participate in general chat, it's not a core topic here, so post counts are not counted there. Many topics in general chat should not be in general chat. Rather than make mods work harder and harder moving threads and possibly upsetting a member, it's easier to let it go and have general chat not count toward post count.

In other words, we work hard to make the quality of this forum BETTER even at the risk of new members not liking or agreeing with this rule. In time, it makes perfect sense to most members. We want the best quality experience for all of our members in the short term and the long term. After over a decade of community management, we have found this to be a unique part of what makes this community strong. It's much better than punishing new or long standing members by moving posts or having mods or other members telling them their post is in the wrong place. Essentially, it boils down to the fact that the first few posts and experiences for our new members is VERY important to us and the overall flow of the discussions are, too.

I didn't say I that I did not like it as a rule, or did not agree with it! I was just curious is all. I got my answer though, so all is well.
