Candle tutorial #5: Adding scent and color
Next we'll choose a scent and a color. My all time favorite candle scent is Root Pina' Colada. I can't find a scent that exactly duplicates it and I'm still trying to make my own. So this time I'm using 1/2 coconut, 1/4 pineapple and 1/4 vanilla velvet. You can use 1 to 1 1/2 ounces of scent to a pound of wax. My coffee can is a little over 2 pounds when full so I've added 3 ounces of scent. I love a highly scented candle but you have to be careful b/c you can put too much oil in the wax and cause a fire. I'll be using ivory for the color and still experimenting to find the perfect amount. I cut the little chips of color into smaller pieces b/c they melt easier. Be sure to wait until the wax is melted, heat turned off to stir in your scent and color. Stirring well for about a minute or maybe 2.
