What size turkey do you buy?
and do you eat dark meat too?
I don't buy a large turkey. I am a white meat only person, but do make soup afterwards with the turkey.

It honestly depends on how many are going to be here, the more the bigger the bird. If i'm buying them for later in the year (at holiday prices of course) then I prefer to get about 10-13 lb birds. I like white meat hubby likes dark meat. I will make soup, cassaroles, sweet & sour with the leftovers.

I saved up my Turkey Bucks this year and got a free turkey from Rainbow Foods. Its 22 lbs... but there will be 6 adults and 5 kids here on Thanksgiving. So it will get ate.
I love leftover COLD turkey! Mmmm! I eat a small piece on Thanksgiving, but like it much better the next day cold with ketchup.

As it is only dh and myself, I usually only buy around a 10-12 pound turkey. But this year I got it for $.29 a pound so I got a 19 pounder!
Dh is not fond of turkey so I will be looking for lots of leftover ideas! I will start a thread for everyone to post thier favorite recipe to fix leftover turkey. I'm sure we could all use a change.

We bought a 20lb. united brand turkey for .39/lb. . I like only white meat and we use the left overs up in frozen meals and such. Not at all brand loyal either. I have a coupon for a free turkey, that came with our subscription to our paper. So I"m gonna get that one for Christmas. It's for any size.

We are not brand loyal either. DH bought a 20 pounder today on his lunch hour, I don't know if it is frozen or not, I sure hope not, LOL. I usually don't buy them that large but DH was in town and they were on sale so I let him buy it and I guess he is a member of the "the bigger the better" club, lol. We are going to be have a lot of leftover turkey, turkey soup, turkey pot pie, turkey sandwiches, turkey enchiladas, ect...
Blessings,
Kathy

This year I bought the biggest turkey I have ever purchased, 21 pounds. Most of the time I just buy the breast, but it was actually cheaper to get the whole bird, rather than the breast only. They were both the same brand, Honeysuckle White. I will think of some way to use up that dark meat. I am thinking maybe shredded, with bar-b-que sauce, should taste kind of like pulled pork.
