I have often used cook meat added to rice in the rice cooker, usually chicken or turkey. Works great. I don't think I would do it with uncooked meat.

You can cook meals, including using raw meat, in the rice cooker. Borrow the Ultimate Rice Cookbook by Beth Hensperger from the library. It is an awesome resource on rice and rice cooker cooking. Here is a link to another recipe for chicken in the rice cooker, it's very good, http://www.recipezaar.com/Claypot-Ch...-claypot-76012

I also make oatmeal, grits and tapioca pudding in my cooker. So wonderful to not have to worry about boil-overs or scorched pots.

it's the canned chicken breast chunks over by the tuna fish and the spam and canned salmon and all the canned meats.

We steam raw meats in the rice cooker while the rice is cooking all the time. We bought this wire rack - found in asian grocery stores in the housewares section. You plop it in on top of the rice and place a heatsafe dish on top (that fits inside the cooker) with your meat and let it cook for the duration of the rice.

Usually we do spare ribs, fish, ground meat or egg dishes.

When you say correct amount of water do you mean the amount needed to cook the rice? Isn't it usually a 2:1 ratio?

I would love to try this.

    Thanks

Oddly enough, in my store, it's over by the canned chili . . . go figure

I saw Martha Stewart on The Today Show yesterday saying the water to rice ratio for brown rice is 2:1. Jasmine Rice is supposed to be 1 1/2:1.
