    Cheeseburger helper

    Recipe Description
Super frugal version of Cheeseburger Hamburger helper.
Serve with a simple salad with diced tomato, and you have a complete meal for under $3.00.
    Preparation Steps:
    Wash produce for salad-drain/dry.
Slice or dice for a tasty salad with dinner.
    Level of Difficulty:
    Easy
    Time Needed:
    35 min.
    Ingredients:
    ~1/2 - 3/4 lb. ground meat-your choice.
    1/2 onion-diced
~1 box mac and cheese-we use a generic brand,(usually can buy for .25 to .33 each)
    ~ 2 slices american cheese
    ~salt and pepper to taste
~1-2 tbsp ground meat seasonings **optional**
    ~1 tbsp dried minced parsley
    Serves:
    4-5
    Directions:
~In a heavy bottomed pan, cook ground meat and onion until no longer pink.
~While ground meat is cooking, prepare mac and cheese according to pkg directions. ( I usually cook it in the microwave)
~ Drain and rinse meat to remove fat. Pat dry. Return to pan.
~Add seasonings and prepared mac and cheese.
~Tear the american cheese into small pieces or strips. Add to mixture.
~ Cook on low for a few minutes for everything to come together and cheese to melt.

    Serve with salad.

    **note**
To boost nutritional value of meal, can add a can of 'no salt added' diced tomatoes...My MIL does this sometimes and everyone seems to like it this way also.

My Sister used to make this all this time! Her boys loved it. I remember them scampering up to the table all grins. That was so long ago. Thanks for the memories.

Default yes, i buy the local store brand of macaroni and cheese...

with the good cheese like velveeta for $1 and add a half pound of burger to it.....sometimes add onions depending on who is eating it and get a bag of reduced salad for $1 and voila...thanks for reminding me of this though.... will come in handy...
