Exclamation Genius or Fool? I'm looking closely at StraightTalk to save on SmartPhone use

We have 3 iphones in our family, and pay about $220 per month for unlimited everything. With Straightway, it appears the same cost would be $180.

Does anyone use StraightTalk? What are the pros and cons?

    Just a few thoughts

So you make international calls. The $60 plan includes that the $45 plan is the same but only has natinal calls.

Also are you comparing your current total charges to the plan at straight talk? If you are using your current bill it has the taxes and other fees that are not yet included in the straight talk quote.

will you need to buy new phones or can you use the ones you already have?

I tried Straight Talk for three months and had dropped calls all the time. Was really frustrating.

Is there a way for you to just try it out for 2 months? or will you lose your everything plan with your iPhone.

I know some people have been grandfathered into the unlimited data while new plans limit the amount of data use.

So.. if you can try without losing your plan... it might be worth it.

    Cheers

I would be wondering about their coverage area and service.

Know this is an older thread but curious why no one ever suggests Boost which is Sprint. It's a month to month no contract and no garbage fees. Other than the monthly cost the only other charge is a straight tax. And with the shrinkage plan it goes down $5 every 6 months up to $15 if monthly payments are made on time. I think it's an excellent plan. It's unlimited and they don't strangle the service after so much usage and it includes all the bells and whistles. I love the fact there's no garbage fees anywhere hidden.

I have used Straight Talk and J currently is using them. In our area the service is as good as the others. I was very happy with the service. I switched back to tracfone, because it is better for me, I never use my phone (emergency only).
I plan to check into this Airvoice Wireless it looks like it might be better for those that do not use the data. J doesn't really use data, just minutes.
FYI.....currently Straight Talk is redoing many things: their website has been down for updates and I know they no longer have the ATT SIM cards.

I know I went to pay hubs old Nextel with the beep beep and they had a notice up that any of their phones with a SIM card will be done away with by June or before. He's going to hate this. He has no use for data stuff. Phone only. Thinking some sort of pay as you go. Haven't checked prices or costs yet. No idea what this is gonna cost.

Coverage can't compete with Verizon or AT&T.

Straight talk cell phones all run on different carriers so you need to research the phone before you buy. They use in my area T-Mobile, Att, Sprint and Verizon. Verizon is the only service that works for me. I also have their homephone option and it runs on Verizon. Also Tracfone, Straight talk and Net10 are all owned by Tracfone.

ATT sucks and Verizon ripped me off for the last time. For 2 years they charged EVERY month for something we didn't have. We had no internet on any phone but every month they charged for it which meant sitting on the phone and fighting. They ALSO charged for internet game playing which duh...we had no internet so therefore no playing internet games. One time they charged $16 for crap we didn't have.
And if you recall they got busted for this and had to repay customers so many dollars. BUSTED. Yeah, I got my check. VERIZON SUCKS

If you've never had Boost you don't KNOW the coverage. I've had both...Verizon AND ATT.

What kind of phone did you own Niko? If it is a considered a smartphone, even if you don't use it that way, then they are required by law (yep every carrier by our wonderful .gov) to charge you for internet. Gotta love a government that makes you buy something you don't want. Oh yeah, nevermind. If you can find a non smartphone or one that is considered quick text which can have internet, but not required, then you are lucky. Those are almost impossible to find these days. I work for ATT for 6 months once in mobility customer service.
