    Talking Going to Vegas!!!!

    Well, Dh and I have been saving up for a vacation for quite a while now... We've been married nearly 9 years and in all of that we've gone to Vegas once in 2001; My parents took us to Vegas for my 30th bday last year (they paid for nearly everything); I visited (no Dh along) my Aunt and Uncle earlier this year...not much in the way of escaping our frigid home...

    So, we have gathered the cash...and WE'RE GOIN' TO VEGAS!!!

    Nope, this won't be frugal. But I cannot wait!!!!! We're both about to go stir crazy from living in a teeny space for so long, enduring the cold/dark winters, etc. We are READY for some FUN!!!

    For the most part it'll just be Dh & me there...havin' a blast!! Staying at Excalibur! But, my best friend (who moved out of state in February) is going to show up to spend Christmas with us!!! I can't wait!!!

    Anyway, we're planning to pack some instant oatmeal, tea, etc. And buy bread, pb, honey, plastic silverware and disposable cups after we arrive - we don't want to blow a TON on food.

    I've dug for "free" stuff, but am guessing I'm missing even more than what I've found!! Any info is always appreciated!!!

    Is it December 13th yet?

    Thanks so much for the input!!

    P.S. Dh surprised me...instead of 10 days to 2 weeks, like we'd planned, he found a screamin' deal for like $300 more... We're staying 26 DAYS!!!!!!!!

    Omg I can't imagine 26 days in Vegas. Are you staying at a timeshare or what? Gripey and I decided after our last trip there which was 5 days that 3 was plenty (can you guess how lucky we were? ). I hope you're gonna do lots more than just gamble.....or I hope you have a huge bankroll. Have lots and lots of fun, good luck!

    Check out Vegas.com. Sometimes they have some good show ticket deals. Be sure to sign up for the player cards. Also, check out restaurants and casinos off the strip. If you didn't get to Freemont Street when you were here before they have a light show that is really good and have local bands playing on the weekend. If you will have a car and want to get out of the city, Mt Charleston is very nice and Red Rock. Have A Great time!

    No timeshare...the Excalibur, right there, smack dab in the middle of the Strip! This will be our 3rd trip (first was one week, second was 8 days)...neither was enough!! We haven't seen half of what we want to see!! I can't wait!!

    No, not planning on doing loads of gambling...we *will* play a lot of penny and nickel slots...and Dh will do video poker. Oh, and he wants to try blackjack at a table one time.

    Thanks! I'll check that site! There are a few shows we'd like to see.

    Haven't heard of Mt. Charleston...will have to check that out. Heard of Red Rock, but don't really know what it is?

    We're definitely going to Fremont Street!!

    We'll rent a car (one day at a time) 3 times... The first day, and then about 8 days in and 16 days in (we're gonna have to go to a laundry mat twice while there). One of those days will be a drive to Hoover Dam.

    Anyone know the best place to get cheap (but decent) food on the strip? We found one food court that had a Subway (we figure $5 subs will be a good deal).

    I *KNOW* I will spend many hours staring at the Bellagio fountains (yes, I'm actually willing to stand and watch them for hours...I'm a goofball...I just love 'em!!).

    I want to see if you can still get free decks of (used) cards from the casino floors...thought that would be fun. (I love to play solitaire).

    Be sure to tell your dh whatever he does when he plays blackjack (my game of choice ) do not split 10's! That makes other players at the table seriously consider murder..... There is a member here that lives in Vegas, I hope she sees this thread before it's too late. I can't remember her name or I'd pm her for you. We saw Cirque de Soleil "O" when we were there in Jan.....it was most excellent. Hope you have a blast. (I love the fountains at Bellagio too---we stayed at Ceasar's last time-a trip that Gripey won ).

    Mt Charleston is off of the 95 North, not really a lot to do but is a beautiful mountain and gets you out of the city. No fee's for Mt Charleston. Red Rock is beautiful. DH and I have a pass and ride the motorcycle through quite often. There is a Visitor Center, you can hike and the scenic drive. If I remeber correctly it is $2.00 per car. Hoover Damn is great. Be sure to check the traffic the day you are going. They are constructing a new bypass and sometimes the delays are crazy. I don't hit the strip much (when you live here you only seem to go when company is visiting) so I can't help with the cheap eating. I have heard the seafood buffet at the Rio is worth the price. It is expensive and I believe only 1 night a week. You might check on a bus pass for while you are here, it can get you off the strip and into some of the neighborhood places to eat and see. If you are inclined to shop while you are here check out the Las Vegas outlets, also on Las Vegas BLVD, south of where you will be staying. To far to walk, but the bus or taxi can get you there. I hope you have a Great time while you are here. And the fountains are worth every minute spent watching them.

    Woot!! I like that plan!! We need to IM more and coordinate!!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Well, Dh vetoed Mt. Charleston...he says we have enough mountains here to look at... Hahahahaha!! I guess he's right?? We certainly have more than our fair share.
    Still talking to him about Red Rock... We've been all around AZ & NM areas looking at the Painted Desert and what-not, so don't know if that'll be a "sell".
    Will tell him about the seafood buffet! He LOVES seafood! He would really enjoy that!! Thanks!!
    Ok...so we're going to rent a car the first day we're there (a Sunday) and then each Monday (3 more days), thereafter. (Just works best with the schedule). The first Sunday will be Super-Walmart, Sizzler, and a dollar store (we'll have traveled thru the night, over 15 hours with layovers, so it'll be a light day).
    One of those Mondays will be Hoover Dam...so, we have the other two Mondays to plan. I'll talk to Dh about outlets...we aren't needing clothes, so don't know if he'll want to 'window shop'??? I think it'd be fun to look.
    Ok...off strip or short out of town stuff??? Ideas?? I was trying to talk him into driving up to the A-Le-Inn (about 2.5 hours drive, one way?). We're both Sci-Fi addicts --- I'd LOVE to go there!!
    Thanks for all the input!
    Oh boy ..... I could almost go green with envy but instead I'll just be VERY excited for you. I've never been myself but my uncle goes about once a year and claims there are several buffets that are only a couple of bucks and well worth it. I've heard him talk about the one at Circus Circus I just can't remeber now if it was that it was a REALLY good one or a REALLY bad one.
    Anyone else got insight into that?
    I'll be following this thread and looking for ideas myself. DH and I have been talking for a long time about going to Vegas, just us. We plan on setting a goal and then useing it as our reward.....just not sure what that goal is yet. Originally we had talked about when we got the mortgage under 50,000. Then we talked about for our 15th wedding anniversary. Both of those are RIGHT here but the reality is this isn't the best time for us to go. Anyway that means we'll set a smaller goal (which will include gathering the money to go) and enjoy the anticipation of knowing we're going to get to go.
    wow, I'd love to have that much time back there! You are going to have the time of your life.
    The kids just got back from spending 12 days, they wanted to stay alot longer also, they say alot has changed from last year, they still had alot to do. They also went to the grand opening of the new aliante casino, they said you might check that out.
    Have a great time!
