Default From Mackinaw City, MI, to Buffalo, NY, via Ontario

I'm looking at a route from Mackinaw City, MI, to Buffalo, NY, going through southern Ontario, and wondering if that would be the best route. Anyone from those areas who can tell me if this makes sense?

    ~Mackinaw City to
    ~Flint to
    ~Sarnia, Ontario to
    ~London, ON to
    ~Hamilton, ON to
    ~Buffalo, NY

We would be towing our pop up and trying to avoid large metro areas. How are the roads? Traffic? Anything else we should know?

    TIA.

That sounds to be the most direct all highway route.

well I'm from Mi. and thats sounds ok.(I got my hand/mitten map out for ya and everything)lol.
Are you going to have a carriage ride around the island. I love those. I used to bike it but years have gone by kwim. ooh are you going to sport for lunch at the grand hotel $$$ but I always wanted to.
Oh wait I see it said city not island. If you go to ST. IGNACE hit the pizza place. Thye have a cool miners exibit w/ historical movie of bridge construction. They also have a decent bakery w/ pasties and gravy (right near where you catch the ferry)
If you go to the island the speed boat is cool.

The first leg of the trip would be through the UP, but I'm not sure how much time we'll have there since the main destinations are in New York and Pennsylvania. We will have our doggy with

and be towing the trailer, so there are some activities that don't work very well for us. We have to take turns doing everything. If we have to skip over some of the things we want to see in the UP, we're okay with that for this trip because we're not that far from there and plan to go back to see everything eventually anyway.

We were wondering if we needed to worry about traffic around Flint.

Another cool place in Michigan you will be going right past before you hit Flint is Frankenmuth. It is a German village with the Best chicken dinners and fudge and there is also Bronners which used to be the worlds largest Christmas store, don't know if it still is, but it is huge and they have some beautiful displays. And I know its summer but believe me it will feel like Christmas when you get in there.

It's been a few years since we were out that way, but as I recall the only traffic issue we had around Flint was Friday afternoon/night when everyone heads up north, and Sunday afternoon when everyone comes back down. When we hit it during the week heading up to Mackinaw, it was fairly empty. Check the Michigan DOT website for construction during the time you're going, too. What kind of dog do you have? We're heading to NY from MI, but we have to avoid Ontario altogether because of their BSL. Have a great trip!

We have a Siberian husky, who has already accompanied us to Canada. Although I guess it was Manitoba, not Ontario. They'd have a hard time banning huskies in Canada, I would think.

Ontario has the pitbull ban (or any breed that may not have bloodlines to the pit bull but looks like one)

That's why we avoid it, Libby. Various people have told us at one time or another that both of our dogs look like pit mixes, while others have said they don't see it at all. Either way, I'm not taking a chance that they'll be seized and killed in Ontario.
