    Default Canadian air fare

Kerry wants to travel from Jasper Park Lodge to Toronto with his flatmate during February. Does anyone know any cheap air fares or where would be the best place for them to book their air travel?

They have their hotel accommodation organised, but they need help getting a good deal on the travel. He said the fares are pretty expensive. Does anyone have any tips?

Tell him to do a search on West Jet or Air Canada. Usually if you book 21 days ahead, you get discounted rates. Also if you can book on-line, you get discounts.

He should do it right away though, because the further you book ahead the better the discount.

He can go direct to their websites.

I ditto, that is the best way. The big city newspapers sometimes run ads with special prices but the way to get them is the West Jet or Air Canada sites.

The discounts usually apply to flights leaving and arriving in major cities so he would have to travel to the nearest big city, either Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton.

Peasant wagon (the Greyhound bus as it's known around here) is sometimes the cheapest way to get there but the trains can offer some deals too, so to get to the big city cheaper.

Thanks CJ and Margery. He's looked for some fairs but said on the phone yesterday that air fares are quite expensive there. Here you can fly from Brisbane to Sydney for $50, he said it's much more over there.

He needs to fly because he's only got a short amount of time off work and wants to go to a few places. He's also thnking of going to New York while he's over there.

West Jet is having a 50% off sale for today ONLY!!! (Jan. 12) There may still be some flights left.

I asked dh, he knows these things, and it's approximately 3,500 miles from Vancouver to Toronto and Canada is approximately 5,000 miles wide.

I know it takes 3 days of solid driving to get across BC, Alberta, Sask, Manitoba and into Ontario and down thru Ontario into Toronto.

The fuel costs for the flights are high, but also those flights subsidize the flights into smaller areas with less air travel.

Our north for example or the coast-- some communities are only reachable by air, using float planes and such.

Airlines that run smaller jets and planes into even bigger cities in remote areas such as the Yukon have to get enough profit from their more heavy traffic to pay for that.

I think that may be why our air travel is more expensive.
