We like to drive to Eureka Springs and visit a very close friend and stay at his house... but, we haven't done that since we got snowed in there for 4 days on our last visit and he now has a baby.

Our road trips now are to Columbia, MO (a great town) to visit our college daughter. We love discovering that area and find something new to do each visit.

However, we have so much to enjoy right here that we don't feel the need to make too many trips. We're a destination for tourism... so, why leave? I love our lakes, canoeing our rivers and hiking our trails. We don't really camp now because we live in the woods... it wouldn't be much of an escape. We feel like if we just open all the windows in the summer, it's just like camping. We can listen to the crickets, tree frogs, owls, coyotes and the creek trickling in the backyard as we drift to sleep. Anyway, with gas prices... it's much cheaper to drive the 1 1/2 miles to the river and just hang out there for a while and come home.

We're planning our first road trip of this year in April.
We will do a three days in Atlantic City. The hotels
are really cheap then, they also have great deals on
places to eat and plenty to do besides gambling.

We're driving home to Pennsylvania this summer because it would be way to expensive to fly, then rent a car. This way we'll only have to pay for gas, hotel and food.....It's a 14 hour drive. We'll do it in about 9 days altoghter, back and forth.

We stay at KOA in a camping cabin when we travel in the summer. They are inexpensive and there is air conditioning and a pool. We have even taken the microwave and used it to cook with. This is my idea of roughing it. LOL

We are going to try a vacation at home this summer.

We are going to be tourists in our own region. The kids will be delighted to visit a variety of parks, spray park, and local zoo. We can pack snacks. We will use our normal gasolin budget for the week (each car gets one fill up.)

We may have a 15 hour road trip next month. I'm already planning to borrow a portable DVD (hopefully a vehicle DVD unit)!

    Talking Road Trip!!!

We just took a Spring Break road trip to San Antonio, TX. It's so beautiful! There were 15 of us in all and rented a house. The adults paired up and took turns cooking. In addition to the Alamo, River Walk, and zoo, we spent time in the outdoors around a campfire on the huge property. It was a unique experience!

To locate a rental property, I did a search for "vacation rental properties." I corresponded with the owners by email and phone, and we negotiated a fair price for 3 nights. It was easy and saved a ton of money over renting hotel rooms and eating out.

    Way to go!
Sounds like it was a very nice and frugal
    getaway.
