Bridal shower gift?
There is a young girl at my church, mid-twenties, that will be getting married in September and her bridal shower is in about two weeks. This will be her second marriage, she lost her first husband in an accident. What would be an appropriate gift? I crochet and cross-stitch, all that kind of stuff but to me that kind of stuff (afghans, etc.) is more of a wedding gift. I do not think they are registered anywhere either. Anyone have any ideas?

One of my favorite gifts from my bridal shower was a cross-stitched wall hanging from my aunt. Maybe something like that, with some words of wisdom or something would be nice, and then put it in a nice frame.

I second Edelweiss, but say that it would be especially nice to have some bible verses. Maybe something proverbs.

I think an afghan would be nice as a shower gift. I got a few at my shower, and we still use them today

Maybe something handmade then a little gift certificate to bed bath and beyond or linens and things so she can pick something out they need.

I think the cross stitched idea is great! You could do some kitchen towels with your crossstitch on them.
I second Jerseygirl about the GC also.

I think almost anything you give is appropriate (I mean not clothing ofcourse, unless it's a lingerie shower you're attending
). It doesn't have to huge or expensive just something thoughtful. It really is the thought that counts.

One of my most treasured shower gifts is a sampler with my weddig date on it and our names. Hangs just inside my front door. Its the only gift I still have 20 years later! It stood the test of time!

I usually give nice picture frames as a shower gift. I figure they will have tons of pictures from the wedding so I try to get the same frame in a few sizes. Not terribly expensive either.

This is what I gave my best friend at her bridal shower a couple months ago (she loved it!)

Apology Goblet
© 2000 by [email protected]
This is a Forgiveness/Apology Goblet.
May it be the least used gift you get.
As life goes on, small disagreements occur,
But don't let them fester and dig like a bur.
It doesn't matter who was right or wrong.
The hurt will take its toll before very long.
Fill this goblet with any drink to share
And tell each other how much you care!
Count your blessings and share your love,
Taking an example from the Lord above.
He said at the Last Supper among raised tins,
"This cup is shed for the remission of sins."
Drink up and toss the hurt aside.
Let laughter and happiness once more abide.
And you'll find another good thing too. . .
Making up is fun to do!
I bought the goblet at Goodwill--- tied a pretty ribbon around the stem, and packaged it in a beautiful box.

A basket of candles for the bride and groom
A basket of candles that come in a pair
Of all the different colors, for you two to share
The white ones burn first; they are wrapped in white lace
To celebrate the first night in your new chosen place
The green pair is taller and much more thinner
They are to burn with your first company over for dinner
There are candles to burn Christmas Eve, before bed
Your first Christmas married, that’s why they are green and red
The navy candles are for after your very first fight
Use them to burn when making up all night
Pink candles will now set the mood and pave the way
For you first married Valentine ’s Day
Now when your first year of marriage is finally through
The cream anniversary pair will light for you two
By this time we hope, just maybe
You could burn the purple ones on the birth of your first baby
And just when you thought you could put them away
Take the light blue ones out for your fifth anniversary day
Now for one more left for the big 25
The anniversary pair that will keep your love alive
To congratulations both of you on the start of your forever
May the two of you always be happy together
And burn these candles just the way we said
But please don’t forget to blow them out before bed.

Holly molly Sunshine, I wish someone would have given me an apology goblet. I love the candle idea! Thanks for the ideas everyone. I wasn't really sure what to do considering that she's already been married once and I figure she already has the house stuff. I was planning on doing a sampler as a wedding gift. They have asked for Lowes and Home Depot g.c. but that's a little out of my price range.

Im going to go a different route....find out how they met or have one major interest in common and base it on that...theme gift. Be it cross stitch, gift basket, books etc as long as it has something to do with their one shared interest.
OR
Make a cd of songs that were #1 on their wedding day and date back 10 yrs or so? I think that'd be cool!
