need opinions- bridal shower
I'm throwing my sister a bridal shower at my home in November. It's not a surprise shower, she knows about it, but everything else (theme, etc) will be kept a secret from her as per family tradition. (I'm actually planning to send her a very tacky invitation-- for a country hoe-down or princess party or something equally mortifying to her-- as a gag shortly before the shower and act like that's the real invitation-- she'll kill me.
)
Style-wise, we have very different taste. I'm a very country, primitive, relaxed kind of girl.... she's very classy, more modern & elegant in her style. I think I'm going with a general Fall theme for decorations-- no paper bells or anything like that.
Here's my dilemma.....
I LOVE these invitation, and it would be easy to carry on the theme-- candles as favors, etc. http://cgi.ebay.com/Fall-Candle-Wedd...QQcmdZViewItem
However, I keep thinking that I should pick something that's more HER taste, since after all, the party is for her...
What would you do? Opinions welcome! (Fall-themed shower ideas in general welcome, too!)Last edited by AmyMCGS; 09-19-2006 at 01:28 PM.

I like the invite a lot, I would keep the theme, but keep it simple, the candle idea is nice, go with a modern line, don't get too fussy with the decorations, etc. Enjoy it.

I think that you should go with your gut instinct. It is her wedding, and the shower is for her, so it is important that she be happy. If the roles were reversed, would you have preferred it for her to throw an elegant and upscale shower for you, or a relaxed country type shower? (this is just my opinion, please don't take offense)
If the only thing you are worried about are the invitations, here is a "DIY" idea that I helped a friend make for her wedding invitations last fall:
Take different coloured leaves off of the trees (orange, red, yellow), and press them in a heavy book overnight. Print the invitation information on a nice sheet of white paper, but size it so that you can fit 4 invitations per page, and so that each invite is square. Paste this square on a larger square of colored paper (we used an orange-yellow color), and put the leaves in 2 opposite corners and paste so that it looks like the leaves are what is holding the white invite down. Here is a photo similar to what we did: http://wedding.invitations4less.com/...?ID=464&Type=I
For her centerpieces, she had large bunches of leaves that were tied with a gold ribbon and placed in a vase, and her wedding favors were small containers of fresh maple syrup (we live up north). Everything looked very elegant when it was set up.

I would consider my tastes to be more elegant and classy like your sister, and I like those invitations you picked out a lot. It's just fall leaves, not bales of hay and scarecrows.

I think you could do a lot with fall decorations. I think a pretty centerpiece for the table would be a glass hurricane type candle holder with fall colored candle with fall colored leaves around the base of it with maybe some miniature pumkins. Another would be to set out several voltive candles in different falls colors with silk leaves, miniature pumkins and nuts sprinkled around them. One thing I do for fall is take my large hurricane candle holder put in a pretty fall colored candle the put candy corn in about a fourth of the way up. I love fall decorations. Sounds like a fun shower.

I had a wedding and rehearsal dinner in a fall theme. I had lots of mums with burgandy bows tied around them. Everything turned out really classy. Here are some links to some pictures of my decorations.

Thanks, everyone! I am leaning towards using those invitations then keeping general fall decorations. I can make the candle favors more elegant/ less country and I think it will work.
And Heather, your wedding was pretty! I might borrow your centerpiece idea!
