I "bought" two free bags of frozen veggies at Meijer. Sale price 79 cents, coupon for 50 cents, double coupon value worked.

I was also given a free Vanilla Bean Noel lotion. It's not from someone I normally get a Christmas present from so I don't count that as Christmas gift. It was unexpected freebie because she had more bottles than needed for gifts - I was at the right place at right time.

Well, I may not technically "get it" for free during the month of Dec, but the agreement's been struck, and it's a GREAT one. An old friend of mine from 15 years ago is back in town after a few years in Vegas. He does home remodeling/construction. Business is slow, so he has some time on his hands. He also has four (well, as of today, three) cats.

Some of you may know I am a veterinarian with a cat practice. I also have a lot of deferred maintenance/repair issues at the clinic that I have been footdragging on due to cash outlay issues (lol). Specifically, one entire wall with exterior exposure TOTALLY LACKS INSULATION.

My friend came over this AM and I put his poor cat with cancer to sleep. Then he opened up the wall to evaluate (it gets hot to the touch in summer and like ice in winter, so that was our clue that there was a problem). He saw that there was NO insulation in the space (in Los Angeles some folks think they can actually get away with this when building/remodeling, lol) and that entire BATTS of fiberglass insulation can and should be installed.

For over a decade I have lived with this. I am a little slow to act where hammers and nails are involved. But now he is proposing ripping out sheetrock and putting in insulation and tarmopping to seal out moisture, and between the waiting room and hallway and one exam room it's about 20-25 ft of wall we are talking about. And he wants to do it for COST. And he wants to trade for my services.

So this MAJOR project which will save me MAJOR money in heating/AC expenses is going to cost me NOT ONE CENT out of pocket.

Holy moley!!!!!! Merry Christmas to me, I guess.

And my friend wants me to make a list of any other stuff I need done (like electrical, cabinetry, plumbing, etc) and he will barter for that, too. I have quite a list of miscellaneous annoying little projects that I can now get all taken care of. I may be vetting his cats for years to come for free but that is just fine with me, lol.

That is so great kestrel! I love it when I can barter services for services. We do that alot around here as well because my DH is an auto mechanic. We have saved alot of money that way!
