  1. Homesteading and gardening
I just finished redoing my great-grandmother's rocker for my new granddaughter. I received it when I was a little girl, used it to rock my 3 children and now my daughter is going to use it for her daughter. What a great thing to pass along!
  2. Laundry
Does anyone know how to clean them? My father gave me a box of linens he'd been saving for one of us girls. They were in plastic grocery bags and just jammed in...some folded. Some are well over 100 years old. That's the good part. The bad part is that there are a lot of dark brown spots...
  3. Secondhand Shopping
First I wandered by a booth that had a classic 1960s wood/metal bar stool for $1 and of course I had to have that. Then I found a booth of someone who was apparently pulling out of the antique store and I got 2 baskets and 3 enamel pots, for $1 each. Then I found a booth with a 1/2 off sale...
  4. Secondhand Shopping
~DH and I spent about 5 hours in antique stores on our vacation last week. I was looking for big stuff and didn't find it so I wasn't as tempted as usual to pick up a ton of little pretties. I did get a great jadeite green tray for my kitchen and two pairs of clip earrings. I forgot to include...
  5. Home Decorating
My DBF has not done much decorating in his living room with the exception of a new odds and ends of knick-knacks and pictures of his granddaughters. He has a modern clock and a small shelf on one short wall. One wall which runs the entire lengh of his living room (prob. 15 ft) has nothing on...

  9. Just Tips
Is there an online resource (free of course) that I can look up values on antique furniture? Has anyone on here dabbled in antiques and have a few books that they can look stuff up for me? I really didn't want to make a trip to the library or pay an antique appraiser, but I guess I might have...

  11. Secondhand Shopping
I bought three antique chairs from a cheapcycler today. One was painted black and has gold trim. I was told it was from 1850. There is a water ring in the seat. Does anyone know how to remove it?
  12. Home Environment
:( Help! I left a wet towel on an dark wood antique table that my great aunt gave me. Now it has a white haze on it and it doesnt come off. I tried using Old English for dark wood to see if it would cover the mark but it just dulled it a bit but it is still very large and very visible. Any...
  13. Sewing
After reading all these posts and after thinking, I think I'm going to dig out mom's old sewing machine. It's an old black metal Singer with foot petal. I'm not even sure whether it works or not. I'm not a seamstress by far and I'm embarrassed to say, I don't even know if I am going to be...
