  1. Debt Reduction & Money Management
I have an idea but I want to get some opinions before I commit to it. We have our son's first birthday coming up in the beginning of February. He's the only grandchild on both sides (as of now) and he got spoiled on Christmas and has more toys than he needs. Our gift to him is we are...

How much do you put into your auto repair fund on a monthly basis? Do you just use an envelope or do you have a separate account? Is it just for repairs or does it include regular maintenance such as oil changes and tire rotations?

Our EF should get us through about 4-5 months without income. Right now it's in the equivalent of a checking account, and gets no interest. I think I want to keep around $2000 in there but the rest of it, I was thinking maybe I need to put it to work. Actually my father suggested it - I'm not...

If we have a $5000 debt yet want to budget for a Christmas fund of $1000 expense and get an unexpected $1100 in the mail, should we pay all of it towards the debt or create our sink fund?
  6. Debt Reduction & Money Management
After reading this article, I gave our efund some thought and based on things that *could* go wrong, I think we have a good amount. I thought about car repairs, hospital deductibles, appliance death, etc. We have a $3k emergency fund and are comfy with that. Anybody keep a higher amount and if...

Ugh, I hate my job. Hate hate hate it. I have found that lately my Emergency Fund has become an "FU" fund, just trying to save enough that I can have several months of expenses saved so if it gets any worse, I can just quit (or say FU to the job. I have about 5 months of expenses saved and it...

I have an acct that I put money in from every check for annual bills. Some of those bills, like our yearly propane, can vary depending on prices, weather and such. How much of a "just in case" factor should I add in?

I visit another board and commented about an emergency fund I was shocked at some of the responses I got, that they believe that I should open a line of credit and use that instead of saving for an emergency fund? Does anyone else think like that? Or do that? I'm actually shocked!! I would much...

Just a quick question my goal for my emergency fund is 5000$ which would end up being enough for 4 1/2 months of living for me and my dd. We get a garenteed 600$ a month so between that and the 5000 it would go 4 1/2 month without me having to really cut back (just what I currently add to...

Emergencies, :furious: we all hate them but we all know they are very real and DO happen so..... If you have an emergency story to share please do and maybe add the planning method and how long it took to refund it. My hope is as this thread grows it will help inspire others who may have had...

What should be included in my 3-6 month EF? What does everyone include in theirs, I want to do up a bare bones budget and then redo what my EF should be.

I am trying to figure out how much my emergency fund should be. The Total Money Makeover did not cover calculating emergency funds if you have rental property. I have 7 units total (6 rental, 1 house for me) Do you take a percentage of units and figure it from there? For example do you...
  14. Money challenges
I'm starting a christmas fund challenge for my self for 2011. My goal is to have $600 saved by Dec. 1, 2011. This will be for the gifts that I don't make, decorations, Xmas dinner and so on. I probably will not spend it all (that's a high amount for us), but want to be really ready next year...

Hi I am following Dave Ramsey's Baby steps. I am currently at baby step 2. I only have $2000.1 left on my debt. I have been on beans and rice for the entire year to clear all my debts. And I can pay $1739.77 by the end of Dec 2010. I am still short of $261.33 This is after scouting and saving...

I thought this might be a thought provoking question. I do, set it up many years ago. Instead of insurance, we take a monthly payment and put it in a savings account for the dogs. I'm glad we do. It paid for a five day stay in ICU for my dog. So, do you do this; or am I just weird?

My wife and I have the $1k emergency fund set aside for baby step 1. We never actually had an emergency fund before so it feels good. But now that I'm moving along, I look at it like it's not enough (odd since we never even had one before). Has anyone else had this feeling? We have deductibles...
