  1. Vacations and Travel
so I bought my Mountain Jam tickets today. This is a three day music festival in Hunter New York, the first weekend of June. think of a mini Woodstock. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am. AND it looks like I'm probably going by myself to boot! I booked my campsite about a month...

I am so hooked on canning!! Today I made tomato jam. This stuff is sooooo good! It is savory and sweet and spicy and has some heat from red papper flakes. I am sorry I waited so long to get brave and try canning! This weekend when I pick up my bountiful basket order I added on a 25# case of...

So. We have an apple tree that produced a lot of apples this year, after nothing last year. The apples are kind of small and tart, but not crab apples. We've also had a bumper crop of rhubarb - have harvested it three times this year already and on Saturday we harvested about another 26 cups...

I love most jams with strawberry and raspberry being one of my favorites but I just made this this morning..........and it could hop right into first place. This was so good I was eating the partial jar by the spoonful. A little more work than some jams........but IMO well worth the effort...

Went out this afternoon to check and see how the raspberries are coming along. The first flush is just getting ripe now, so I picked myself half an ice cream pail. So now I'm trying my hand at making raspberry jam. Just boiling up and sterilizing the jars right now, I'll be taking some...

Some of the lids did not seal. I did a 2nd hot water bath for an extra half hour, and I still have two not sealed jars. Are these ok, or should I try a 3rd water bath? I'd really rather not store all the jars in the fridge for the next 2 years.

OMG - so delicious. I have all of these wild river grapes growing all over the place, so I decided to make some river grape jam. The flavor was so good - but it didn't set up right. I followed the directions exactly, but it didn't gel. Rats. I'm going to use the jam as a glaze instead.

I used to make a lot of jam when the kids were growing up. I made a minimum of 60 jars annually, sometimes more. Favorites were strawberry, black raspberries, and long blacks. I also tried some different ones, like current. I did make some last year, and am going to make some this year. I...

I did an inventory of my chest freezer and found some peaches that I froze back in '07'. They look perfect ( they were vacuum packed in a foodsaver bag). I was wondering if I could thaw them and use them to make jam? Do ya all think they're too old? I'd hate to have to throw them out. Thanx!

Does anyone have a good recipe for low sugar Apricot-Pineapple jam? We are using Pomona's Universal pectin and apricots we froze a couple of months ago. Thanks,

Had a request from another forum to post this recipe. I have not made it yet but intend to do it in next couple of days. Thought it sounded good (I love the 'butters') and it was in an OLD canning book I had. BANANA-PECAN BUTTER makes 8 half-pints 3 cups mashed ripe bananas (6 to 7...

We would like to make jam with our frozen blueberries. Has anyone done this? Also, our raspberries tend to ripen in drips and drabs. It would be easier to do this with them.

This has certainly been a busy weekend. Saturday was finished up the beets. We canned sixteen pints of beet and froze twelve quarts of beet greens. It was a long day. Late Saturday afternoon we checked on the peaches. Our early variety was almost ripe. It was ripe enough to attract...

for the first time. I'm kinda excited about it, I hope it turns out okay. The recipe on the pectin box said to use 4 cups of mashed fruit but all the recipes I saw online said use 2 cups mashed fruit. I used 4 cups. They're sitting for 24 hours on the kitchen counter right now.

Since I apparently dodged a bullet with the cold weather, my optimism is running wild. We would like to make peach preserves this years. If canned, how long can we expect them to last. Normally, we do several years worth at a time. I made dinner with tomatoes that were five years old. That...

Someone on FB recommended that I try Turbo Jam. Has anyone here tried it? If so, what did you think of it? I need something for the coordinated-challenged and also something low-impact (have an artificial hip). TIA :)

So.. while perusing the paper for good grocery sales this week, I noticed that cranberries are on sale. Now, I HATE them. With a passion. My fiance, however, loves them. He lives in Europe though and they are not available there very often (not cheap anyways!). SO I had the CUTEST IDEA!! :)...

How does it work? I've tried and only came out with runny jam. What did I do wrong? I used the low sugar pectin and honey for that. What do you make that way? Where do you find your recipes? Jean
