I'm new and have a few re-purpose ideas I would like to share. I posted in the welcome section about a thin belt my wife and I turned into a watch band. I can post pictures if anyone is interested. Next idea is a use for the bread bag twist ties and clips. Use them for organizing headphone...

Surprising New Uses for Dryer Sheets - Manage Your Life on Shine I wouldn't think that they could remove soap scum but this is a must try for me. The cats may also get a light rub down with a sheet since they (and us) are getting zapped with static electricity when we pet them.

I'm pretty new to FV, and thought I'd dive right in :grnwave: I was thinking about those foods that I always make triple or quadruple batches of because I can easily recycle them into new recipes. My favorite is chili. I make a huge crockpot full and we eat chili and cornbread one night. I...

I have two white 3-tier vegetable baskets that I never use. I bought them and didn't like how quickly the vegetables went bad and ended up just refrigerating them instead. Now, they are stuffed away all lonely wanting so badly to become useful to me. ;) So! I was curious of any of you have some...

I cooked pasta this afternoon and have a gallon of "pasta water" that I know would be useful if I were making bread or soup today or tomorrow. But I'm not! I'll most likely just use it to moisten the compost today. What other uses can there be for "used" pasta water?

Hi All! I recently came upon the website It's a great site with a list by state of Re-use and Recycle centers. I found one by my house that seems to have a lot of great prices on stuff. We need new exterior doors and a couple windows still need replaced. Has anyone ever used one...

I am taking a break from draining and scrubbing two, 20 gallon fishtanks. I have already explained to the children that I will neither finance nor sanction the acquisition of more pets. I have somewhat nebulous plans to make a terrarium out of one or both tanks. But I am left with a huge...
  10. Question and Answer
I was just wondering if there was a way to re-use the filters needed in a humidifier. I have a small one in my kids room and I hate having to buy filters for it, they are getting harder and harder to find, plus they are sort of expensive! Anyway, this humidifier is great, except for the...

every year i go through this with my kids. the oldest always gets the newer clothes because she grows out of them first...then her sister inherits her hand-me-downs. When they were younger, it was easier because they didn't really care what they were wearing to school. Now I find my youngest...

You know those boxes that you get on the shelf that have vegetable, chicken, or beef stock and broth. If you rinse them out well then are they reusable or is there any specific reason I shouldn't reuse them? Thanks so much in advance, I figured I'd use them for my own stock I make at home :)
  16. Question and Answer
I noticed that some wash and reuse their ziplock and sandwich bags. I have started to do this also but only when I have stored non meat items. I have been really leery to wash and reuse something that had chicken or pork (uncooked) in it. For those who do this normally, do you also rewash and...

Hi everyone, I'm new obviously so I've been doing a lot of reading around here. I don't believe I saw the following ideas mentioned so I'm sharing. Glass or Plastic Jars are used for storage in the pantry or freezer. When storing gravy or broths in glass jars make sure you leave enough room...

Curious how everyone reuses or recycles things. I think people will be doing this more and more with the way the economy is. Give us your tips *Use old frayed bath towels and cut into washcloths and dish rags. Dish rags I cut a little smaller, so I can tell the difference in laundry. (I cut...

I reuse smaller soda or gatorade plastic bottles when my sons go bike riding or fishing. They fill empty bottles with kool aid or water. They can easily carry the bottles in their back packs.

We re-use them like crazy here. A 12 pack of bottled water from the store lasts us about 2 months because we wash and refill them and put them back in the fridge. It is much better for the environment too. I have not yet found a non-disposable water bottle that doesn't leak, my kids were...
