I live off grid and I have a washing machine that is run off a generator but I don't like to burn gas to wash clothes so I designed this simple hand crank washing machine that could also be used as a compost tumbler- not at the same time LOL! Anyway, if you need to wash a big load of clothes...

I got it today...and decided to try it out...the front loader washers use 10-24 gallons of water per load...vs. a top loader washer and 40 gallons per load...This Panda washer uses 6 gallons...3 for washing and 3 for rinse...there is no spin cycle...but when washing only 5.5 lbs of...

for washing clothes while camping...it's the Panda brand...bought it for 79.99+20 buck ship CAD...it holds 5.5lbs of clothing...anyone own one of these? I was wondering how much water it uses...it did not say in the description...but I'am going to assume it's less than a front loader machine...
  4. Question and Answer
It's about time to wash our sleeping bags. The tags say to use a front loader, which I don't have. Should I use the laundromat (around $5-6 per bag) or try to wash them in the bathtub at home by hand? I don't want to use my top loader because I know from experience that they can make the bags...

I bought the first bottle a long while ago because it was being sold for almost nothing. I thought to myself it was probably a brand that wasn't selling so they wanted rid of it. (Later I discovered that it was new brand that they wanted to push.) This stuff is SO THICK that it hardly came out...

Ok so the laundry in my apartment building has gone up to 3 dollars!! So is it possible to get clothing really clean if washing them in the bath tub? I know it might be a strange question but my building does not even have full size washers, and seeing as I don't drive and there are no laundry...

I wanted to give HM laundry detergent a try, so today I went out and bought Zote and Borax, but could not find the washing soda (Walmart). They did have large boxes of Arm & Hammer baking soda, but I'm guessing that won't work as a substitute, correct? Anyone know where to find this stuff?

I inherited a front loader washing machine with my new place, but everytime I do a wash, the clothes come out smelling like a cross between stinky feet and a wet dog. It's really gross! Any suggestions for how to get the stink out of my machine? I'd really prefer to not have to buy a new one.

Does anyone here wash their clothing without electricity? I've been looking into it and some options seem really pricey. http://www.lehmans.com/store/Home_Goods___Laundry___Washing___Lehman__x27_s__xAE__Hand_Washer___32823315?Args= THEY LOOK THE SAME...

Just wondering how often we all wash our clothes, towels, sheets etc. I lived with my best friends family for a year while in college, and I was shocked at how wasteful their laundry habits seemed to me. They washed everything after one use, including bath towels, jeans and sweaters. They...

So earlier this week, I discovered a leak under the washing machine. I lifted the machine earlier today and found a drip that's on the drain hose. I couldn't find a hole, but I think that there is one in the hose. The hose isn't disconnected on either end, so the plan is to go about replacing...

I've been wondering why for the last few months why my towels don't smell fresh. Today I had to wash a load of icky DH work clothes. It left a bunch of leaves and whatnot along the top of the agitator. As I started to wipe it off, I uncovered a whole new box of scariness:box: I found these tips...

has anyone measured to see how many cups of Borax are in the 76 oz. box and how many are in the 55 oz. box of washing soda? I could do it, but if someone has adready done it? Trying to figure my price per load of dry detergent. Thanks,

It started today during laundry. The washer is leaking water below the tub onto the floor. I think it might be that the tub is loosening from the seal, because when I hand-turn the tub a quarter turn, it tightens it somewhat, and doesn't leak for a cycle, but the agitation process causes it to...
  17. Question and Answer
You would think it would not be this hard, right. This city must be hiding it. I've been to Kmart, CVS, the hardware store (found the Fels soap there) and went to Wal-mart tonight looking for it. Zippo. :skept: Looked in the laundry detergent isle. I have everything to make homemade laundry...
  18. Question and Answer
I am having a hard time figuring this out and I guess it does depend on how dirty your clothes are. So I usually use the 'regular' cycle for clothes and it's like 90 minutes long and the speed cycle is like 40 minutes. I want to save more energy and if the front loader cleans just as well on...

I tried this a few years ago, and I'm going back to it. I have rather dry hair with sometimes-oily roots that is wavy. And I am in the process of growing it out, so I don't want to do it much damage. I have found that the very cheapest conditioners work best for this. They have a certain...

Our second hand washing machine finally bit the dust last night. We had been wanting to save a few months before buying a new one, but we went ahead and took it out of the EF since we'll be able to replenish in a couple of weeks with our tax refund. We decided to go ahead and buy a front loader...
