My master plan right now is to save up am buy at least 10acres of land, build a (eco-friendly) house, and start a family. It's pretty far in the future right now,but I'm doing as much research as I can now.
So I'm from the Missouri Ozarks region, right smack dab in the middle of Mark Twain...
A little back story first. My boyfriend and I live in an apartment and our tap water is decent enough to drink but we prefer filtered. We buy cases of Poland Spring water at BJ's Wholesale Club and he takes 2 bottles every day to work with him. He typically only drinks one bottle and then during...
As I was pouring water for a friend and myself, I had a sudden cleaning attack and took it apart to scrub it real quick. My friend looked at me with such disbelief - not b/c I was taking the time to wash it "right then" - but when she said "You're supposed to wash those?!" that I just about...
I was reading 'The Complete Tightwad Gazette' and it says you can reuse 4L(1 gallon) milk jugs, washed of course...paint them black and fill with water set out in the sunshine and you'll have hot water to use when camping. Just thought I'd share what I read...going to definately try this Summer...
We just had a solar water heater installed. The collector is a 4'x8' panel on the roof. From a distance, it looks like a big skylight. The heat exchanger and storage tank sit in the crawlspace.
The system pre-heats water entering the electric water heater, so the electricity is a backup for...

We successfully reduced our 8-week water usage from 18 cubic meters to 15 cubic meters, and brought our bill down from €45 to €36 :D I'm very proud of this as we really were trying. I don't know if it's possible to reduce it even further but I'm going to try!!
DH and I are looking into a hand pump as the next 'phase' of preparedness. Do you have any experience you could share? Brands/manufacturers etc?
Our well we would hook it to is 10-15 feet above kitchen level (on a hill), not more than 50 feet away, water level is within 6 inches of top, never...
Forgot it was a new month already!!!! Wow, I don't know where the time flies.
This challenge is to drink more water throughout the day. Our bodies need water and lots of it!
I am in for 64 ounces per day. How about you? :)
After trying for a couple years I finally got DH to put in an electric hot water tank. He said how high the electric bill would be. Here is the comparison:
Before the tank---245.00 per month (summer)
After the tank- 12.25
Before the tank 200-250.00 (summer)...
