"Oftentimes, you are so used to having these items lying around, you seem to see past them. Yet, a quick bit of editing will go a long way towards creating the organized environment you crave. "

Last week I cleaned out a top shelf. Threw out plastic cups from when my boys were little. I'm sure the plastic has broken down and leaching toxins. I took a picture for the memories. Next is some of my grandmother's old dishes. Some are pretty, but I don't really remember much about them. The only thing I have that I remember are the salt and pepper shakers. I'll hold on to those. Everything else can go. Again, I'll take a picture.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning and I had decided it was time for us to declutter and clean our house. I had been putting it off for weeks, but the mess was getting out of hand. I called out to my kids, "Hey guys, let's clean up the house today!"

My kids groaned, "Do we have to?" they asked, not too enthusiastic about the idea of cleaning.

"Yes, we do!" I said, "It's important to keep our living space clean and tidy."

We started with the living room. I assigned different tasks to my kids. My oldest son was in charge of organizing the books and magazines on the shelves, while my youngest daughter helped me fold the blankets and cushions. My middle child was tasked with clearing out the toys and games from the floor.

As we worked, we found things we had been looking for, such as a lost sock and a missing toy. We also found something we had forgotten we even had, like an old photo album and some board games we hadn't played in years. We donated some of the items we no longer needed or used, and made a pile of things to give away.

We moved to the kitchen next. We cleaned the countertops, washed the dishes, and wiped down the appliances. We found some expired food in the fridge and threw it away. My kids loved helping with the cleaning and felt proud of their accomplishments.

Next up were the bedrooms. My kids were excited to clean their rooms and organize their things. My oldest son wanted to get rid of some of his old clothes and toys, while my daughter collected her dolls and stuffed animals. My youngest son needed some help cleaning under his bed, but he was happy to find some missing toys he had been searching for.

After a few hours of cleaning and decluttering, our home looked fresh and inviting. We sat down together and enjoyed a well-deserved break, sipping some ice-cold lemonade. As we looked around the house, we felt a sense of accomplishment. It felt good to have a clean and organized space, and we all knew that it was worth the effort.

From that day on, we made a promise to keep our house clean and tidy. My kids understood that it was important not only for our physical health but also for our mental well-being. We made decluttering and cleaning a routine, and it became a fun family activity that we enjoyed doing together. All these efforts were to celebrate my daughter's birthday. After that, we decorated the house with balloons that were bought online.
