What are your goals where your grocery budget is concerned? Do you have a budgeted amount each week or month? Do you include HBA, pet supplies, baby supplies, and food, or only a couple in this budgeted amount? How many people does this budgeted amount cover? Let's keep each other accountable!

I'm going for the $250 for January as I did last post. Had thought about doing the No Spend January which includes eating out of the fridge/freezer/pantry as much as possible. Haven't decided yet and as I didn't leave the house today I'm still thinking on it. Probably not.

I just know I have to rein in what I've been spending grocery wise ( includes all things except prescription meds includes pets and household/HBA )

I am so sorry, Niko! I am trying to figure out how to delete my thread as I hadn't seen that you'd started this one!

As far as my grocery budget, I'm aiming for $350/month. This covers 5 people (3 kids) and includes food, paper products, and HBA.

I am going to shoot for $200 a week this year. We are a family of 6. Kids are 16, 13, 11, and 6, and my 13 year old DS is a hockey player and as a result is a bottomless pit. I include everything in this amount: food, HBA, paper products, etc. Gonna really work to shop sales, use coupons, digital coupons, and work our way through the pantry and freezer.

The latter part of the year I raised my monthly budget to $275 but I want to start out back at $250. This is for 3 adults, food only.

I'll stay at $500. I can give to charity out of that as well as help DD and the 3 other people she stays w/ (2 kids). And she food trades w/ others. So I have no idea who or how many we are feeding. there are only 2 here now but DH was gone 50% also.

3 days in and nothing spent yet. Hubs did bring home milk and bread but that was spending money from the sale of something or other.
Almost out of eggs and out of frozen peas totally for dog food.
Need to get back on my coupon game.

8 cans of Progresso soup (with soup once or twice a week as the dinner meal plan, this should help cut the budget) on sale this week! $.88 a can down from $2.15 a can
12 pack Snapple Diet Peach Tea $9.99 (the kids drink this throughout the week…it’s not my favorite, but we don’t drink soda, so I give in on this one)
garlic powder (we were out) $1.49
Minute Rice large box (it was cheaper, per pound, than generic) $6.99
2 jars ShopRite pasta sauce $1.29
4 boxes of CheezIts (normally $4.49/box) on sale $1.25/box
1 roll ShopRite tin foil (I didn’t have time to get to the dollar store for this this week) $2.49
1 box hot chocolate normally $2.49, on sale $.99
1 box triscuits (not on the list) $3.49
4 boxes Ronzoni pasta normally $1.69 a box, on sale $.59 a box
4 boxes Special K normally $5.39 a box, on sale and with digital coupons…$2.99 a box (these were the big boxes)
big box of Goldfish $6.49
multi pack of Skinny Pop popcorn (DD brings these for lunch) $4.99
1 package hamburger buns $2.50
8 pack hamburgers $2.57
2 packages Perdue chicken $6.48 and $6.47
1 bunch bananas $1.13
1 package green grapes $8.74 (I wouldn’t have bought them at this price)
1 quart half and half $2.79
2 containers Pillsbury grands biscuits normally $1.99, on sale and with digital coupons for $.49!!! Woot! Woot! I may need to go back for some of these this week for sure
8 yoplait yogurts (for DD and DS13’s lunches) $6.40 total
1 box gogurt (little boys bring these for lunch) $3.19
4 lunchables $1.88 each (I know…an easy expense to eliminate, but I have a hard time packing enough food to fill DS13’s stomach) $1.88
1 pack beef hot dogs $3.99
1 pack turkey dogs $3.99
1 large container parmesan cheese $4.99
18 eggs $1.89
2 organic milk $4.99 each
3 banquet turkey sausage (breakfasts) $1.33 each
1 large bag chicken tenders (I cook these and cut them up for me and DD’s salads) $4.99
12 AAA batteries $6.79

I earned $3.00 in Downtime Dollars from ShopRite’s new program, so that also came off at the end. I saved a total of $70.69 in sales and digital coupons and my total was $156.16, and that makes me very happy! Well under for this week.

Then I went back on Tuesday when I realized that it was the Can-Can sale and I wanted to stock up on some items I missed and get more of great deals and this happened:

Today I went back to ShopRite after school and stocked up on some things that were too good not to stock up on this week
8 cans of Progresso soup (with soup once or twice a week as the dinner meal plan, this should help cut the budget) on sale this week! $.88 a can down from $2.15 a can
6 large Gatorades (normally $1.39 each, on sale for $.79 each…treat for the boys after their sports)
12 cans of vegetables (corn and green beans) normally $.88 a can marked down to $.33 each
4 boxes of Entenmann’s Little Bites (I buy when these are on sale) normally $4.69 a box, on sale for $1.50 each

Sales and coupon saved me $42.53 and my total was $27.05, which puts me at $183.21 for the week, which is perfect.

Went to Aldi and then went to ShopRite.

At Aldi, I bought:
4 packages of Colby Jack Shredded Cheese (I was sure that $1.89 a package was cheaper than ShopRite cheese...I later got to ShopRite and found them on sale for $1.77 a package...so I bought four there, too...they'll get used)
1 frozen pizza $2.29
1 box tissues (for my classroom) $.89
1 large box instant white rice $2.39
1 40oz creamy peanut butter $2.89
1 jar grape jelly $1.59
1 box zip sandwich bags $1.99 (could have gone to the dollar store for .99 less, but I'd have spent more than that on gas, as there was nothing else I needed at the dollar store today)
1 bunch green grapes $4.17 (there's just no good price on grapes anywhere these days and my kids devour them...hard to say no to fruits or vegetables the kids are willing to eat)
1 box Aldi triscuits $1.19
1 bag flour $1.19
1 box Aldi nature valley granola bars $1.39
1 bag tortilla chips $.89
1 bag navel oranges $2.49
1 bag chocolate chips $1.79
1 bag corn chips $.79
1 bag brown sugar $.99
2 bags penguin crackers (Aldi version of goldfish crackers) $1.49 each
1 loaf white bread $.83

Total: $38.65

Then I hit ShopRite:

3 pack paper towels $1.99
12 pack cottonelle toilet paper (normally $10.99) on sale and digital coupon $6.99
8 cans progresso tomato basil soup (normally $2.49 each) on sale $.88 a can!!!
12 cans ShopRite green beans (they were out of all other varieties of veggies...normally $.79 each) on sale $.50 each (again, they were 12 for $.33 each earlier in the week...they must have changed that today...disappointed that I didn't check the signage carefully, although I'm pretty sure I did?...I could have gotten these cheaper at Aldi)
12 pack Snapple (normally $12.49) on sale $9.99
4 cans Campbell's cream of mushroom soup (normally $1.87 each) on sale and with digital coupon $1.46 (should have just gotten the ShopRite brand)
1 multipack Skinny Pop $4.99
8 boxes Ronzoni pasta (normally $1.69 a box) on sale $.59 a box
8 boxes Jolly Time microwave popcorn (we eat a ton of popcorn, and these are the boxes that have the free Redbox codes inside that don't expire until 12.18...killing two birds with one stone) (normally $2.49 a box) on sale $1.49 a box
1 box SleepyTime tea (it helps me sleep) $3.29
2 large boxes Cheez Its (normally $4.49 each) on sale and with digital coupons $.98 a box!!!
4 boxes Entenmann's Little Bites (I only buy these on sale...good lunchbox fillers) (normally $4.69 a box) I got them for $1.50 a box (still have two boxes leftover from last week, so I am good to go for awhile)
1 bunch bananas $1.16
1 container watermelon chunks (normally I would NEVER buy these..ever...cheaper to buy a watermelon and cut it up yourself...but DS11 was with me and was STARVING after backstage crew and asked for watermelon) $4.59
1 box 4 butter sticks (normally $4.99) on sale $2.99
10 vanilla yogurts $.69 each
5 chicken nugget Lunchables $1.88 each
4 packs ShopRite shredded cheese (normally $2.99 each) on sale $1.77 each (ugh...cheaper than what I got at Aldi...but that's okay...we eat cheese like it's going out of style over here)
30 large eggs (normally $8.99) on sale $4.79
2 organic 1% milks $4.99 each
3 banquet turkey sausage $1.33 each
1 box ShopRite brand Allegra $9.99
1 toy (for a birthday party DS6 is going to tomorrow) $14.99 (gonna go ahead and count this since I bought it at ShopRite)

Saved $75.08 with sales and digital coupons

Total: $148.08

Total between both stores: $186.73

Amy I have a copycat recipe for tomato basil soup. I know it is yummy but stopped buying it due to sugar and salt. Do you want me to dig out the recipe? Admit I have not actually tried making it.

Our budget this year for groceries is $220 a month.
We cook mostly from scratch. Most of my shopping is done at Aldi's plus local salvage stores. I don't include household or toiletries in this shopping. We use the envelope system for budgeting so I have separate envelopes for those expenses.
