What are your goals for your grocery budget in 2019?

How many people do you budget for? Weekly? Monthly?

Let's keep each other accountable!

We are a family of 2. Right now my pantry and freezer are very full. I am going to try for just 40.00 a week in January for produce. I will also do an additional 40.00 every other week for household products if needed. If I dont spend it all I will just add to February budget.

I am working on using up and wasting no food.

family of 4 and 3 cats. I include household stuff like soap, detergent and pet food in the weekly budget. planning on $150 a week but I am so stocked up from before xmas that I don't need much. just fresh stuff like fruit, dairy, bread, lunchmeat and more pet food. so about $60 for the next while. milk is $5 a gallon so adds up fast. need to do amazon k cup order too of coffee.

Trying to do a low spend Jan for food, I really have stuffed cabinets and freezers. Allowing myself $10wk or $50 for the month for the must haves like milk and fruit. This is for 3 adults food only.

That didn't go as planned, I'm already at $130 and there's till almost 3wks left. Oh well, guess I'll just set my normal goal, $275.

Same budget for February. I need to buy more fruits/vegetables, and stop eating so much starchy food & protein. The cake I made last week was a bad idea for example. I do have a dozen cans of vegs in the pantry, maybe use those first.

Slow on the posting on this one. If I HAD posted my budget would have said $250... which as I've said before.. I don't know if this is even reasonable anymore. I seldom make it. Mine includes everything... HBA, pet 2 tiny dogs and one cat... with one small baby dog on prescription food, OTC meds and edibles. 2 of us with kid eating at home sometimes.

January my total was $298.48 best I can figure. Lot better than previous months. Also used another $174.22 in coupons, sales etc. In all fairness though there was a good deal of stockpiling going on due to him/us retiring before much longer. So again I don't know if $250 is reasonable. It will just about have to be at the point we retire. I'm trying to stockpile higher priced items so they won't have to be bought soon after we retire and we can adjust to the limited income gradually.

Will post for February soon as I tally up. I think I'll say $250 again but I see Winn Dixie has the large cannisters of Folgers for $5.99 and Dollar General has large cannisters of Coffeemate for $4.95 so... I may increase that. Those are for us big ticket items that store well and would help with grocery budget for awhile when the time comes. Yeah... probably more for the month. Will repost when I get it together.

2/7 $56 of $175 spent. Part is a Target order for pantry staples.
Niko your grocery bill may go down when you have more time available to plan & cook.
I made crock pot soup Tuesday that used a package of chicken and a lot of leftovers. About 6 servings.
Will make split pea w/ a frozen ham bone next week.

I hope so. Although considering it includes everything from food to pet food to over the counter meds and cleaning it probably isn't bad. But still need to cut it some

Still haven't totaled receipts. But not doing bad at all I believe. I did do about $30 in shopping for a woman the kid works with who hadn't eaten for 3 days and was getting sick. Understandably. She's broke. Her cars broke. I bought stuff and told the kid she'd better not mind cooking. 10lb potatoes, bag apples, 2 cans corn, box instant potatoes, box pancake mix, 2 boxes breakfast bars (free), big thing laundry detergent, bag rice, lg cooking oil, peanut butter, eggs, 2 boxes spaghetti noodles and 2 spaghetti sauces. 2 things hot dogs and 2 buns. Think more so yeah... but will count that in MY total as it was spent. Some was already here and out of my stockpile.

I'll try to get totaled up for month soon.

I really need to figure out how much I am spending on groceries... I feel embarrassed to admit it, but I don’t even know. I’m going to start tracking it and then figure out an appropriate budget based on what I’m currently spending and begin to curb it a bit.
