The price of meat here is down to normal again this week, but who knows what the future will bring. I am still seeing limit signs here and there. Bookworm, I hope you're able to find some deals soon.

It has occurred to me that even people who had 6 months emergency funds saved up are going to be at the end of their rope next month.

I have kept a budget mostly for planning purposes in retirement. I'm will go over budget again in the future, really trying to build up pantry. I organized storage space. The problem is even if I spent $$ build up months' worth of supply, I need to keep replenishing it to maintain inventory. So not going to "recoup" the extra expenditure due to not spending any time soon, possibly years. Also extra household and personal care stuff (light bulbs, detergent, toothpaste etc.)

I have spent close to $400 and it's only mid-month. :vs_whistle: Some has been for dad and brother due to brother's laser surgery 6/30. He has another one next week, so taking more groceries. Some has been for stockpiling but not that much. Trying to figure out the new normal.
I figured out how one grocery store rewards is working, you can get gas discount to grocery discount, I chose $2 off groceries this morning. My car's gas tank is tiny and uses regular unleaded, not premium. Target pricing still better than grocery store, I need to keep ordering pantry stuff from Target.

Total for July almost $530. Crazy for me. Still stocking up and not sure what to budget, guess I will play it by ear. Hubby bought day-to-day groceries this week since I was gone. My auxiliary pantry storage is not full yet (cans, boxes). Don't have time to think about this right now, maybe next week.

Husband has been doing the shopping since March 5th.....I have no idea how much we have spent....I make a list and he either goes and shops or I have him do curb side pick up. He has gotten quite good with it all....at first I was getting lots of phone calls but now, he has it downpat. As for the total, I'm afraid to ask....

I did a big pick up order end of last month which was $300....now it's just milk and bread and maybe some fruit everyweek. I probably won't have to do another order till the end of month....so really, we aren't doing too bad....
I can't wait to start making soups....I love soup....

I used $10 off $50 coupon on a Target pantry order. Had to do store pickup but not bad, in the store less than 10 minutes since everything was bagged already. Stopped by grocery store hoping for marked-down meats (last day of sale) but did not find any.

Exceeded Sept budget about $25, not worried about it. October budget the same. Thanksgiving is still up in the air. I am willing to host SIL & BIL but there is the problem of BIL's daughter (gluten intolerance) and picky grandkids. Really don't have the energy to deal with that extra preparation and clean-up.

dlr....fix what you normally fix and tell sil she will have to bring or fix for the gluten intolerance and picky grandkids...nicely, of course....

We will be alone for thanksgiving....won't be able to go to casino so I guess we will be really alone. As for Christmas, we will probably be alone too as daughter isn't speaking to me....again....I'm tired of it....can't do with the drama...I just want to live what few years I have left in peace.....I really don't care what others do....if they are happy...great....there is a meme on fb that says something along the line of being at the age where I don't want drama and if you say 1+1 =5, yes , yes it does and I go on my merry way.....LOL

Started my chicken soup....smells wonderful....

Sunny and beautiful here.....

Got a note from director and they are opening the center for homeless lunches again....she asked if I would come in and decorate the table for Nov. 3rd. No one will be there when I decorate, so I will do it....nothing too fancy....nice tablecloths and some fall decor....just means I need to find the fall stuff in the garage....I was pulling stuff out of guest closet and wouldn't you know I found a tote for the shoeboxes....I decided I will save for next year as I ran out of pencils and not going to buy anymore this year.

Have a great week everyone....

bwp - I am going to steal this, 1+1=5. I have so much family drama that this is going to be my new mantra when things happen. (thanks for the laugh, I needed it!)

Peg, I know that's a thought but she is REALLY gluten intolerant. So if a utensil touched something with gluten then touched her food she would get sick. It is just too much responsibility for me. And all smaller kids get on my nerves, not just about being picky eaters. And if I decided to fix 5 dishes then hubby would insist on adding 4 more dishes to the menu. Their family just goes overboard. It's tiring. I like when it is just the two of us and we eat and clean up and then I can do something relaxing. And have plenty of leftovers.

dlr that would be a big responsibility......hope your hubby will agree for just the two of you.

Haven't done my October food order yet....we have plenty except I do need some fresh produce and fruit....maybe husband will pick up this weekend. I did order some fruit cups and chewy bars from Amazon yesterday....they were all on sale and I got a good price....had to counterbalance the $30 I spent for four jars of Better then Bouillon chili flavor....I had gotten a couple of jars last year on sale for a dollar and gave to my grandson's gf....she texted me last night asking me where did I get it as she loved it and was out....she tried all the groceries stores and none carried it so I ordered from Amazon....four jars should last her long time.....

Did my monthly order and husband will pick up tomorrow....he ran to Big Lots yesterday and got me two 15 packs of flavored water and got himself some cookies...
Grandson gf was thrilled to get her two bottles of chili favoring....I don't make chili anymore.....I was on vacation few years ago and wasn't really sick....my niece made chili and I ate it....was sick all night....just looking at chili reminds me just how sick I was....I don't think it was anything wrong with it, my stomach just couldn't take it....

Spent under $100 in October. Basically because hubby annoyed me early in the month so I let him do most of the shopping. November budget $200. I still don't know what is happening in November. Prices still seem reasonable on most of the things I buy. I can look out for bargains. Fortunately I can go to the store early morning on weekdays and it's not crowded.

Best frozen turkey price among 3 different stores is $.39/lb. I am thinking of putting the basement mini-fridge at coldest setting and hope the turkey thaws really slowly if I buy it now. Regular fridge-top freezer really has no room. Other useful stuff on sale so time to stock up.
