CH that is darn cold....why oh why would they bring a baby out in those conditions....I'm with you on the money part...hope you didn't leave the receipt in bag as they probably took food back and got cash....I hope not....That was very nice of you to help them with something to eat....I haven't been to WF's in years....

That is a lot of money to send a package....I use to send packages to the reservation in SD monthly but I could use the one price box from post office.....I stopped doing that when I retired..... Now we send everything by Fed Ex but try not to send stuff.......

Last time I got pearl onions I got them at Trader Joe's......I do love their tiramisu except wish they would package it better....the cocoa on top just flies all over when you open and cut it.....

Haven't heard if sofa is going tonight....I'm still hoping they just forgot to let me know they were coming over...lol
It's 5:30 and I have no idea what I am going fix for dinner....nothing like waiting till the last minute....

Stay warm....

Thanks BW, I will check TJ's next time I am there. Haven't tried the tiramisu, love it but sooo many calories. I do love their dark chocolate raisins though.

Yes, I kept the receipt. I offered to buy them the food and they said ok, so I'm guessing they wanted it. And the woman was giving a slice of bread to the child when I left. Usually if people are only begging for cash they will refuse anything else. I've had a few give me a sob story and when I said I'd buy them a sandwich or groceries then they changed their tune and only wanted a cash handout. I think I'm going to go back to handing out McD's cards. $5 goes a long way there. The hitch-hikers panhandling by the freeway seem to appreciate them.

Supposed to get colder tonight, but then it is January.

CH- That's sweet of you to help people in need. It sounds like the family really needed the food and was appreciative.
Dlrcpa- I hope you didn't receive any emails from the club. Good thinking on avoiding the computer.
DH smoked a turkey and I made potatoes w/gravy for dinner. I asked DH if he wanted turkey soup and he agreed but threw out the carcass. He said it didn't occur to him to make soup with it.. ::sigh::
During the strike, I used pantry/stockpiled items and it worked out ok. DH wanted cinnamon rolls and bread but didn't mention it. He bought them when I could've made them. Bummer. I'll have to go through and see what I have/need. I hope to clean out the cellar and get some shelving down there for canned items.
Snowy and bitter yesterday. It may warm up for a few days and then more snow.

Back to cold weather 19 degrees, yuck. I sewed the last border on the quilt and checked the batting (yes it is large enough.) Maybe layer and pin it today, maybe not. Finished a free e-book from Amazon. They have a large selection of free ones with Prime membership. Hubby went shopping and said he will fix salmon tonight. I know there are potatoes left, I will offer to peel them for mashed.

Woke up with a headache. Doing laundry and going to Kroger for a few things. I finished the cross stitch and a book from the little free library. Got to drop off one and get another one. Making rolls and broccoli rice casserole tonight to go with leftovers. We might get snow tonight, but not expecting any.

Rujerro, that's too bad about the turkey. Hope he knows better next time.

GB, hope you get rid of that headache. Sometimes with the heat on at night it dries out my sinuses and I get one too. Weather is just cold and dry here.

Today looks like a good day to go through the bills and pay them. Something wrong with the electric company website for a couple months now, have to write a check the old fashioned way. Making potato soup with ham for dinner. Been meaning to bake an orange cranberry loaf, may get to that today too.

Stay warm, everyone.

Sunny and cold again today. Need to run to Kohls for an order pick up. Went a couple of days ago and forgot my phone. Didn't make it back.

Dgds came over yesterday. It was their mom's birthday. She was out having a girls day out. Left ds at home with the girls. He was trying to work. Oldest dgd kept calling dh. He finally called me and asked if I could go get her. When I got there, youngest wanted to come too. We stopped to get them some donuts and McDs for lunch. Then we made a cake and oldest dgd decorated it with blueberries and pink sugar. I found a heart cookie cutter so she could make a heart with the sprinkles. They watched Encanto and a few other videos and mom and dad came to eat cake. I was worn out. They talk non-stop. I was mentally drained. Dh had to work late the last two nights. It was lonely. Didn't get as much done as I wanted to. The girls wear me out.

Tonight we are going out for tacos. We didn't get to go yesterday. Then oldest dgd will come to spend the night.

I hit a bargain today. Went to Kroger and always hit their bargain shelf. Bought 3 dial hand soaps and 3 large jar candles and only paid $3.66.

GB- Those are great deals!
Jetts- I hope you get some rest after the girls' visit. I have to admit, all of those fun activities would make me want to visit alot!

The prices at the market are crazy. Yeast is up 40%. yikes! Rice krispies are sold out and corn flakes are $6.49/box. I'm looking for store brand but those are sold out.
DH wants to go to the mall and run around before the gym. I don't know that I'll be up for that.

12 degrees here. Worked on the double-layer pants project yesterday, taking elastic and pockets off the inside knit pants. Weather has been so lousy this January. December wasn't bad. Now expecting more snow Friday-Saturday and strong winds in addition to below-freezing temps. I decided those pants are important. Knitting more kids' hats using up scrap balls of yarn, the scrap bag is getting smaller.
Asked sis-in-law if she had African Violet plant soil on hand and she said she would bring some. I tried to order from Amazon but they won't ship it, some states have weird restrictions so I guess that's the problem. Big box stores don't seem to carry it. The leaf we rooted about 18 months ago has a lot of "suckers" crowding the pot so I'll divide it, probably get several more. I'll dig out pots and wash them to be ready. I used to have a LOT of AVs, they were fun. Hope everyone is staying warm.

A little warmer today. Need to run to target and get cat littler. I did an order pickup so I don't have to lift it. Drop a return at Kohls. May look around depending on the coupon they give me. I'll probably run to Sams too. Need buns and a few other things for Sunday. I've been craving bbq, so I'm going to pick up one of their cooked briskets and some burnt ends. It should make a few meals and be cheaper than going out for bbq.

Dgd spent the night. Watching Encanto again. She'll go home soon. Her nana is coming to visit today. Not sure why she spent the night, but whatever. Not much makes sense anymore. She helped me put up some new decorations. I stepped back, didn't see the cat and step on her, started to lose my balance. Then pulled something in my back. Neck hurts this morning.

May eat some bbq tonight for dinner if I get it. Otherwise, I don't know. I'll find something in the freezer.

Jett, sounds like you need a vacation from your family. I did that last week. Just went to the movie by myself.

Cold and cloudy here today. Doing a load of towels and got a cream cheese pound cake in the oven to take to the church for a lunch after a funeral. May work on quilt squares later. Got to pick up chicken feed, mail some cards, and trade in my book for another at the little free library. Orange chicken over rice and an Asian salad for dinner tonight.

Freezing here. Had a surprise whiff of snow this morning, it's already evaporating. May get more tonight.

DH is in bed sick. Ate something that disagreed with him and was up half the night.

Rujerro, cereal prices are crazy. Almost nothing being produced by Kelloggs because of the strike. I only saw Special K. $5.29 for Cheerios last week. I didn't even look at the fancy ones with nuts and dried fruit. And prices for crackers going up, too. $4.99 for the small box of Cheezits. $4.29 for wheat thins, they used to be 1.99.

Dlr, hope you get those violets rooted. Never had much luck with them myself.

No plans for today other than the usual round of house work. Was going to thaw a pack of wings for dinner, but will wait to see if DH is going to eat anything.

Hope everyone is feeling better today! Foggy here all week so far..gets a bit better and sun out later in the afternoon all the birds are extra hungry cus it is chilly. dang coyote was in the front yard at 1pm the other day...we live in a city and they are normal night animals. wasn't scared of me either when I chased it off. I know I throw food out for crows etc but they eat it right away. Always hit and miss w people begging if they are really in need or not but you do what you can. at this point people who aren't vaxxed not worth talking about it hill they want to die on.

Redecorating will be fun Zhoen..yikes about the school system..threatening to go to media etc seems to work when they are being nuts. cus really. I am glad it is over for me in a few months! Though the person in charge of ds program is the same one at friends church who insisted that the doors be open in winter and heat is on high during service..one out of a couple hundred people so now people don't come and friends dh keeps door closed by them. most are unvaxxed cus reform. well now her hubby is a pastor there and I am if she was bad before ..he wasn't working as a pastor just a member (left a different church years ago so must be a story there) and members weren't asked.. So told ds and to be careful..thankfully his program is over this week. He is too trusting cus he is why would anyone act like that cus he doesn't so lovely boy but real world. Said just being aware of stuff that happens doesn't mean you have to act that way. it is just to protect yourself. He isn't feeling well this week..sleepy, stiff neck etc and I am first covid (omnicon hits a lot of schools now and no testing) or meningitis ..cus mom thoughts. Is bad allergy week for us both so said take a decongestant to see if that helps and will see. cus of course he doesn't listen when I say you have to keep up on the pills.

of course a long list of stuff to do but meah.. did my 2 stores this week, organized other stuff. watching my shows while puttering and cleaning. my cousin has booked tixs to visit so time frame to clean lol and get stuff done downstairs. needs it. though could have shopped..bought fh and reactine off amazon and did online grocery order for today. mostly sale stuff that will stock up on some easy meals. the days of not spending more then $200 a week for everything long gone. laundry I did yesterday. popped allergy pill and leftover split pea soup for dinner though will have to find something for dh. he won't eat peas. I did breaded pork fries and peas yesterday...left in oven too long..normal for me and allergy week. bag of salad going off so picked though it for a bowl for dh as veggie. will go though pics to see what ones for new frame display.

Martha- I agree with mom thoughts..Warch his stiff neck for meningitis....
CH- Hope your DH is better.
Jetts- Is your back/neck ok? I have stepped on cats many times and it is unexpected for sure.

The hunt is on for cereal for DS2. He will be back on campus and loves cereal before school. I was able to find clearance cereal under $2 a box (cocoa krispies, chex) and saw a sale for honey bunches of oats so I'll see if there's any left.

I will try to get 6 free bagels with my points at Einstein's. Their sandwiches ( bagel/egg/bacon/cheese) went up to $6.49 each. They're good and I can get a free sandwich with the points but I think the bagels are the way to go. Their bagels are now $1.59 each.

I went to the pharmacy to get meds but the insurance company said it won't cover it as the script is written. ::sigh:: So I called the doc again and left a message stating that insurance companies will have the patient use every last drop in a bottle, despite the shelf life of a bottle being x days. In my case, I can only get a bottle every 3 months, despite the company stating the potency is gone after 28....And I know this to be true.. When doctors don't take these meds or have enough patients that take them (despite my being told that they have a lot of patients like me!) they are clueless. I need to give a class on patients and their meds and how insurance companies work.

Cold here today. Going to judge two UIL speaking events virtually today. Impromptu speaking and modern oratory for middle schools. At least I don’t have to go anywhere until tonight. My Dgs has a soccer game at 5:30. Going to be so cold, but if he can play in the cold, I can bundle up and watch.

Good morning, 30 degrees here feels like a heat wave. Snow coming around 4pm so walked the dogs good this morning and will again at noon. Later will be hit-or-miss. Wore my "new" double-layer pants and I think they will work well. Definitely find out tomorrow high 24 degrees. Store still did not have whole roaster sale chickens so got sale leg quarters, going into the crock pot. Signs up about supply issues, I can live with it. There were a TON of sale hams, got one. Was also glad to get Gala apples 99 cents/lb. Have a good weekend.

GB: Once upon a time I judged highschool debate events. The smell! Virtual would have been a blessing. But the kids were great...just stinky.

It's chilly here too. DLR: I love the lined pants! I have 2 pairs. One is about 3" too short (I have oddly long legs) but I still wear them under tall boots or just at home. Enjoy.

Got asked to help a friend with some chores this weekend and see her 8 baby lambs! I was all in when she emailed that lunch is ribs and sauerkraut with dumplings for lunch. Not a giant fan of ribs but this is their cow. And I do love dumplings and kraut.

At home I've got dinner sitting on the stove. It's 38degs inside when I left so I figured that's as good as a cooler or fridge. When I start the woodstove up tonight dinner will just heat up...unless it freezes into a brick. Then it will take some work.

Good price for apples Dlr. Like everything else they have been more expensive lately.

Rujerro, that's terrible about the meds. I have been down that road. Sometimes ins co needs very specific wording on the script. If you shop at CVS they have name brand cereal for 1.99 sometimes (this week it is BOGO though) and Dollar General sometimes has it 2/$3, but this week it is 2/$5

Very cold today, below freezing. DH is better, thanks. Drank an entire qt of milk yesterday. So guess who is going out to get more.

Fish sandwiches for supper, with fries.
