Good morning everyone! So the dental implant is going to cost us - are you sitting down? - at least $4100 CAD. I had the scans and x-rays done yesterday. Also a long talk with the dentist. My case isn’t exactly straight forward. I have allergies to most antibiotics. He was very kind. I expected everything yesterday to come to over $600. In the end he only charged me for the scans and x-rays, not for his time. It was $240.00. I submitted a claim to the insurance company last night, and screwed it up. Sent them a quick email asking how to fix it. Am awaiting their reply.
Hubby was relieved the bill was so low, but curious why. I’ve been very clear with the dentist that I am not prepared to go over $5000 per tooth.
I asked him if this is going to be a recurring issue with my teeth and he sidestepped the question. I’m on certain medications that cause a condition called dry socket in the mouth. Dry socket allows bacteria to get into your gumline and cavities to form at the base of your teeth, rotting them from the bottom up. They are almost impossible to fix. Usually the tooth cracks (like mine did), gets infected, and has to come out. That’s what happened with mine.
My other choice was to go toothless or wear a bridge. I do not like the toothless idea, and the bridge was going to destroy two adjacent teeth to fit the bridge in place, and cost two thirds the price. It would have to be replaced in ten to fifteen years, actually making it the more expensive option long term. So I opted for an implant.
I have until March before the initial work is done and the first payment of approximately $2000 is due. We have the money in the bank. So that’s not a problem. It’s just that it’s so much money for one tooth!
