Zhoen I think the swap is a wonderful idea....I usually donate my clothes to a women's shelter.

Grandkids are coming tonight for dinner and to get their Christmas gifts....out of my bathtub....which I needed the other day when we had that bad storm....tornado went down in the south part of city but we were okay. My sister was texting me to get in my safe place and she about had a fit when I said I don't have a safe place.......husband and I decided his closet would be the best bet......no basements here....small ranch house....no large closets......Scary stuff....

Wins:
-Dropped a load of "crap my mother has been storing at my house for years" over at her new place yesterday. There is more up in the attic, but this was everything that was down underfoot.
-Took leftovers to my hard-working sister, which got a few reusable containers out of the house

Fails:
  • Mom wouldn't take back her still-in-the-box-from-forever-ago little greenhouse, so I am going to assemble that and use is for my seedlings for the next few months, then I'll decide if I am keeping or sending the swap
  • Am anxiously hoarding little plastic containers that some groceries came in with the intention of re-using them, even though I KNOW I should get rid of them...
  • Bought 2 new pair of PJs, only purged one...

Dropped off a box of stuff yesterday. Some old books and clothes that no longer fit. Finally got DH to try on some shirts he hasn't worn in a long time.

BW, makes me sad, too. But we no longer read/use them, and nobody we knew wanted them, so it didn't make sense to keep dusting them.

I’ve moved on from purging scrapbooks to china, glassware and silverware. I don’t have much, but I want to make sure my girls get to enjoy it too. A lot of it just sits in the china cabinet just waiting to be used once a year. So sad. So I’ve sent both girls a message and have been checking resale prices online and reading up on china, glassware and silverware.

I’ve been eyeing my bookcase too. There’s a whole row of field identification guides that other people could use more frequently than me. I also have some faith based books to go through. The truth is, I just can’t concentrate to read these days. I can’t remember the last time I read a book cover to cover.

Heard from daughter #2. She doesn’t want any silverware, china or glassware. So I am free to sell it. I’m looking for an excellent polish for the silver. I tried baking soda and vinegar and it’s not doing anything for these pieces. I’m thinking of trying aluminum foil and washing soda next. They are very badly tarnished and have been for years.

I ended up using a paste metal cleaner called Peek, which did a phenomenal quick job of cleaning up my silver. It was $12 CAD + tax. After it was all cleaned up I could see the marks. Not much value in any of it. Disappointing. But at least I know.

Started in with watches. I have a lot of non-working watches that either need repair or a battery. We took them all in to have them assessed by a young woman in a watch shop. She replaced batteries in two watches I really like ($16 CAD), and gave her advice on a couple older ones. They don’t do the work I want done, which is unfortunate. I’ll keep checking around.

I’m preparing to list items for sale online.

I decided to approach an auction/appraisal firm for a look at some older pieces. At first I sent a text message through their contact us page. I still hadn’t heard from them after three days. So today I sent a direct email to them. I’m giving them until next week to get back to me. Then I will actually pick up the phone to talk to someone. I’m surprised they’re still in business! I guess they aren’t hurting for business!

More likely they don't know how to use email, have a mailbox full of spam, and don't check it regularly like younger folks do. They're doing business the old fashioned way. Don't waste time waiting on them. Call tomorrow.

Today I tackled the master bath closet. It's built into a tiny space between the shower and the wall with a door maybe 16 or 18" wide but it's about 33" deep with shelves in the back 18". I looked at pull-forward shelf racks but they're about $50/each. I pulled out a stack of towels to get rid of (vet clinic) and moved a few towels to other bathrooms.
Refolded many of the remaining towels and tried rolling some into log shapes, hopefully a 1-handed sideways grab will work since getting both shoulders into the closet is really difficult. I folded and paired all the hand towels (2 of each kind) and need to find a way to keep them paired. Maybe I'll make some elastic bands for that purpose. When we wash towels nobody wants to put them away because the closet is such a mess, guess I can be in charge of that and keep experimenting.
Cleared out some of hubby's useless junk (empty hair dryer box) and cut down some shallow cardboard boxes for trays to prevent stuff from disappearing in the back. Looking to buy a hanging shelf/basket thing for back of the door to put some bottles of cleaning product in.
