~Well, it's that time of year again! I'm ready to purge my home of 1000 items by December 21st. How about you?
Here's a link to the last two Fall Flings: 2nd Annual Fall Fling! - Frugal Village Forums
I like to choose a reward for finishing. It helps motivate me.
This year my reward will be a set of stainless steel martini glasses and shaker that I've had my eye on. :D
*An additional request from me: please don't post items flung in the 2009 things in 2009 Challenge in this thread. This challenge is 1000 items in addition to any other fling you may be participating in. Thank you! ~

1000...... I'll try. I'll really try. If I could get dh to part with his junk I could have it done in one day!

I'm in! I've already started going through the kid's clothes in anticipation of Fall.

Here are the hot spots I need to focus on:

Laundry room
Garage
Master closet
Top of refrigerator (where all non-kid-friendly things are shoved)
Tops of both curios/hutch (see above)
Kitchen cabinets/drawers

~I usually start in the spice cabinet, plastic container drawer and bathroom closet. I'm always able find at least 25 things to consolidate, or are outdated or broken that I can toss. It really revs up my flinging engine!~

Ok, I'm in. I had started my own personal Fall Fling lasting for 12 weeks. That would have me flinging 600 items. I think I may see if I can do both ~ flinging 1600 items between now and Dec 31st. Sadly, I think its probably possible!

So, 50 items per week for the next 11 weeks (week one is over) and an additional 1000 items before Dec 31st. PHEW!!!

I don't need to purge 1,000 things by the end of December, however, I have made a pledge to purge 10 things a week, which will be 180 things. I've already added it to my signature and am working.

For me, I don't count each individual item. Like, if 3 pieces of junk mail come, I don't count each piece as one item. I count all three as one. That's just how I do it. Although, towards the end, if I get desperate, I might change that strategy. :toothy:

I'm in. I think I may have a hard time with the thousand this year s we hav really parred down. However DH stared hitting the garage this weekend (I've been after him for a couple of years) so that may make it possible and I'll try for the 1000 instead of hitting a lower number. Looking out the window at the pile of stuff that is sorted for it's new locations I can easily say 50 from yesteday afternoon and that's not counting each individual piece of scrap but things such as the iguana tank, 2 scooter, 3 broken down ACs, pocket door, 1 pile of compressors or motors or some such stuff, a broken window, at least a dozen other large "parts", a couple of baskets, 2 bags of hardened cement, 4 empty freeon jugs, and on and on. So I will start with a nice conservative 50/1000 and hopefully DH will add to that today as well.

~Good start, Stacey!
So far I've tossed 6 things from the pantry, 14 items from my craft area, and 12 papers from my big 'to sort' box. I'm going to count these as 20.
I usually only count paper if I can fill a wastebasket. :)~

Well, I got 6 items from the kid's bathroom cabinet, 8 pieces of clothing from ds's closet, 18 old VHS tapes to donate and another stack of paper. I think I'm gonna have to count each item (even paper) for a while (at least on the days I have time to keep track) because we have really de-cluttered because of last year's Fall Fling. And that is crazy because I had large contractor bags full of donation that I would only count as one item . . . and I still made it to a thousand! Lunacy!! I tell you life is much easier after a good purge (dh will debate this, of course)! Actually, dh may start hoarding things up in the attic like a little squirrel when he hears that I am participating in this again.

~That's what my DH is like. I start purging and he's quick to ask "You're not getting rid of any of my stuff are you?"
I usually just ask him if he wants to keep or toss items of his I run across during my flinging. I wouldn't just toss without asking!
Thankfully after two years of doing this he immediately agreed to get rid of a bunch of dvd's I've set aside. I sell them online and then we split the money so I know he's looking forward to that extra spending money.~

Can I join you all.
I think I can do 1000 items
I have been cleaning like a mad women this weekend.
I purged my clothes and got rid of 30 items.
Cleaned out the night stand and flung a bunch of stuff from there. I swear DH saves everything.
Recycled at least 20 old magazines
A bag full of plastic bottles, why did I save every plastic jar I used last year is beyond me.
Cleaned out the spare bedroom dresser as DD wants it in her room.
She has the dressers to the spare bedroom bed and I want to sell the set so have to find a place for everything that was in the dresser. Most of it will be going to salvation army this week.
I think I have flung at least 200 items today.
Need to tackle the downstairs next.

Okay, I will keep editing this post today and then update my siggie when it's quittin' time.

14 magazines for donation/recycle
16 outgrown clothes from dd's drawers

Also, I mirandized dh last night. I thought it only fair. :toothy:

Any person in the home must, prior to Fall-Flinging, be clearly informed that he or she has the right to object . . . said objections will be duly noted and then completely ignored

I just freecycled a steamer that I no longer use (never really used) and have packed a bag of baby clothes that ds2 has outgrown. Off to add 2 more items to my total. :)

This is a challenge I could do!! I wasn't keeping track but from Sept 1st, I sold I think 8 cds, 2 games, a computer, and I flung out 2 things into the garbage today, and took out 2 bags of paper and cardboard this week and last week combined. So I got a total of 15, but I bought a new computer and a flash drive and a software program for it...so in reality only 12. But still a good start :)
