So it's my baby's 5th birthday. We aren't having a party for her but we will be going to my parents house and I told her she could help me pick out her cake. OF course she insisted it had to be the cake that's made with a real barbie.
I remember my older daughter having one like this but I can't imagine I paid 50 bucks for it. Really it's not a very large cake.
I didn't order it but I'm thinking I could do it myself.

anyone ever make one of these? Any ideas on how to do this without buying a special pan?

Here is what I would do. Bake several round cakes. Stack them, layered frosting to hold them up. (May need little wooden dowel rods for support). Stick Barbie in middle.

Decorate.

You will do AWESOME! Post pictures please!

ETA--I saw one site that said to bake the cake in a glass pyrex bowl--I never would have thought to do that. It's certainly easier than my suggestion of baking multiple round cakes.

Yea, imagine my horror when I gave my neice my barbie as a child. When I went to visit the head was lying on the floor. Apparently the dog had a habit of doing things like this.

Don't forget to post pictures of the barbie cake.

Pyrex bowl is a great idea, but I would be worried about it cooking all the way through. You could also bake a few round cakes and then stack them up and carve them into a skirt shape. I bet it will look great whatever you do!

I have just the pyrex bowl. Looks like I'm off to buy a barbie. Will post pics when it's done on MONDAY.
Lucky for me my kids prefer when I make things for them rather then buying. Warning: I may have many talents but cakes are not one of them.

In my experience - a bundt cake isn't tall enough to form the skirt portion properly.

I used the metat bowels that went to my mixer the large and the small ones. put the small one on top of the large one cut a hole for the doll..Wrap the doll in clear plastic before you put in into the cake. ice the cake and use the star point on the cake decorator to make the fancy dress...

Oh you're not alone. I stink at making cakes too. The only cake I've made that turned out awesome was a heart-shaped cake. I bake one round cake and one square cake, then half the round cake and attach it to two sides of the square cake with some frosting.

I'd loooove to be able to make a cake like that.

Good news, I mentioned to her that if mommy made the cake I could do any color combo she wanted and even do two flavors of cake. Her response was awesome. " oh, mommy you're better then them"! She wants pink with blue. So pink and blue it is.

I made these @ the bakery....same exact one. We charged $10 for it. We had 3 cake rounds, cut in circle all same size, stack (no dowels needed) and then we used a knife to shape it. Iced it, and decorated it. Viola! To a lot of people the carving scares them away, but really, its easy!

Good luck!
