50 bucks for a cake!!!

So it's my baby's 5th birthday. We aren't having a party for her but we will be going to my parents house and I told her she could help me pick out her cake. OF course she insisted it had to be the cake that's made with a real barbie.
I remember my older daughter having one like this but I can't imagine I paid 50 bucks for it. Really it's not a very large cake.
I didn't order it but I'm thinking I could do it myself.

anyone ever make one of these? Any ideas on how to do this without buying a special pan?

Actually the ones @ the bakery, do not have legs...AnnK- you can go to Walmart or where ever and tell them you just want to buy that toy barbie...they are $5, and it may be cheaper than paying for a barbie anyway. If you buy a real barbie it will be way to tall.
I just went to walmart and bought a real Barbie for 6 bucks and two boxes of cake mix for 1.00 each. Way better then 50 bucks. I don't know who winndixie thinks they got making cakes back there but that markup is outrageous.

I figure I can just rip her legs off. LOL
When I make them using the bowl the barbie is too tall so I make another cake and then stack the 2. It is usually an 8 or 9 inch rund and then the bowl one. I wrap the barbie's legs in saran wrap and then wrap the hair in saran wrap. Push the barbie into the cake and then decorate. Once the icing is dry I take the saran wrap off the hair. It is much easier to ice without the hair in the way. Learned that the hard way. LOL!!
Whatever you do I'm sure it will turn out great and your daughter will love it!!

I wouldn't cut her legs off! Why waste a Barbie? Your daughter can have it as a toy!

I very much agree its cheaper...we sold ours for $9 which I think is a great price. Maybe they just messed up and gave you the wrong price? We did not even charge $50 for a full sheet cake...
I'm just glad I was never a Barbie girl. It sounds like my mom would have ripped her hair out before trying to do a cake like that. It's cute, though. :)
