How large would you cut a piece of cloth before hemming it for a face mask? Thanks in advance.

I am just using bandannas or large men's handkerchiefs, fold to about 4X6" so multiple layers. I use 2 pieces of elastic long enough to go around my head (top elastic over the ears to hold up/in place) and 4 safety pins to hold 2 elastics on. Should change the cloth to a clean one each time so I need multiple ones.

pattern I am using is 6" x 9" for regular, 7" x 10" for large. Two pieces sewn together, not one piece hemmed.

I made one for my great grandson out of a sock....I saw it on fb and I think the pattern is on google....it's easy and you just cut the top and bottom off and then cut two slits about an inch from end...do not cut all the way thru.... you can slip in a filter (I used a cloth napkin I cut up to fold and it in the slit area and it just loops over the ears.....very very easy.....I'm not a sewer so this was the easiest I've seen....
