I'll give you mine!

Apologies in advance for this vent.

I'm so sick of them. A few years ago the comment was " I have no idea how you'll put your kids through school". I felt like I was slapped in the face. My kids are well provided for! And I actually have NO intention of paying their way through! And they go on and on about how much money they make. Well, in the last 5 years, they've refinanced 3 times. But since they make SO much money, they are buying a brand NEW rv,(for the 3rd time in 5 years as well), and going on vacation to the US, since she got ANOTHER raise. When we're around them, that's all we hear. Money money money, and how our poor kids don't have much....blah blah blh. Oh how breastfeeding a 1yo is disgusting. Welll....lol. I could go on and on.

Well, NOW, BIL is in a snit, as his wife is close with her sister, but he's not close with his brother, and everything and anything is now under the microscope, he's turning 40 and doesn't want to wear his big boy ginch.

We have neighboring lots in an rv park with MIL and FIL, and SIL and BIL came out for the day twice, both times we've had family meals but at FIL and MIL site. So, apparently we are using them and eating all their food.:furious: Ummm... lets see, we provided meat and veggies, and drinks for everyone. So FIL wanted to run the BBQ, how is that using them? And it goes on and on and ON. I'm sick of it.

I can't WAIT to pay everything off. If I can get dh even 1/2 on board, we'll be mortgage free before he turns 42(4 years or so). They will NEVER be out of debt. NEVER EVER EVER. They wanna be like the Jones. And they are, they're BROKE with lots of things.

I'd LOVE to throw a mortgage burning party! And give a speech. (I'm feeling vindictive), how we learned so much from them on how not to do things. That we chose to live like no one else, so can live like nobody else. That we chose not not to keep up with them and the Joneses because they're broke! And now, before ANY of our kids have entered college, us poor folk with merely a 5 digit income are completely debt free, have a healthy bank account, AND 4 kids :) (another rude comment..."why would they have another kid, they can't afford the ones they have").

Sorry venting. I'm sick of his petty comments, of her rude remarks, and of how they try to control MIL and FIL. THey were invited to join us at the camp site, we'd have all been together, but it wasn't posh enough for them. There wasn't enough for their kids to do. Of his whining everytime some one looks at him the wrong way, even if they were actaully looking past him, he'd be offended that they weren't looking at him.

BTW, they won't let their 17 yo boy have a part time job, it interferes too much with their lifestyle. He's a great kid despite, so far. Their 14yo girl is a huge brand snob, won't buy anything used. Snubs her nose at hand made gifts. She's just like her mother, sadly.

I feel so bad for the kids.

Sorry for the vent. I can't say anything to BIL, as I guess I make him feel stupid, as I'm much quicker on my toes than he is. He has cried to mommy time and time again at home rude and mean I am to him. But I've never once tried. I'm quick witted, with dry humor, I guess he just doesn't get it. MIL and FIL do. But he's turning 40! He's not 3.

Wow!It's amazing that you've actually been able to keep your cool. I'm not sure I would be quite so good. LOL You will feel so much better when you are debt free and they are up to there necks in it. Some people only feel good about themselves if they are searching for ways to belittle others.

Oh wow that is unbelievably rude of them. Wow!!! I think you have been very nice through all the negative comments. I would have ripped someone a new one by now.
I think you should throw a mortgage burning party!!!! Yep!!!

If it makes you feel any better everyone has those "not 22 nice" people in their lives. We had 2 rude friend comments this week. 1st Dh's cell for work broke, our tv blew out and the basement had water issues. A friend actually said to dh " well you deserve it. You have a savings account." WTH!!! Lucky I wasn't there!!!
While out with a group of couple friends I asked a couple about a new very posh restaurant they had visited. Just for conversation you know. I was told " you need to get mr cheapskate to lossen the wallet and take you" I told him that "mr cheapskate has no problem losening the wallet and he has taken the family on a nice family vacation every year because thats important to him. "

I guess with people like you and I are describing the best revenge is living well and secure down the line.

Well geez!!! I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want these to gems.

Thanks for letting me vent. I've had about enough of them. I keep my eye on them though, as they are prime candidate to be elder abusers eventually, they already try controlling MIL and FIL through guilt trips. I just hope that it is realized for what it is, and no power is given.

As to the neice, I already restrict visitation as she favors my dd10 over ds13, dd8. She has invited one, but never the others, she tries to sneak off with her, etc. Nuh uh, that ain't happening under my watch. Besides, my kids got it figured out. I don't do school book orders, I refuse to pay $7/book. At the end of the year, we go garage saling and they find 90% of the books they wanted for 25¢ each. They know it. They love goodwill too, $20 goes alot further than 1 pair of jeans, and they often get brandnew brand name there for under $2. It's afamily activity to go garage saling. And the older kids now have a list they work from of wants. They understand.

If any one wants them...... They're still up for grabs.

Tell ya what, I'll trade your for my MIL, The bankrupt "Jones" brother and his wife, and the bankrupt baby brother who'a wife left him and he moved back in with mommy (he's 30). This family comes complete with regular calls from bill collectors to our house, ugh! (We have a VERY uncommon last name so the collectors just go down the list in the state looking for them).

They're yours to do as you please with :) Just send me the shipping address and I'll have them there in no time :)

Maybe we could TEACH them a thing or two?

Don't let them get hold of your mind. You and your family are doing so well and are so happy, so don't let these folks spoil it at all! Do you think that part of it might be jealousy? You know, the first line of defence is attack stuff - they might be a bit defensive because they don't have your security and happiness.

Who knows, she's always been about stuff stuff stuff. He's always felt he grew up hard done by, yet, his brother(my dh) isn't like that. Dh may not buy into living debt free, as he was raised to believe you'll always owe some one, but he isn't as spend crazy. We're slowly curing that(he LIKES to garage sale and Freecycle now..lol).

What is the saying: you can pick your friends but you can't pick your relative?
At least you can vent here and get it off your chest. Probably no matter what you say or do, they will not get it and would not want to give you the satisfaction of saying out loud, perhaps, you are making better $$ choices. Ah family, :)

There are time I wish dh company would offer a transfer from here. It would end up being in the US, so a major major change, but to just leave all the drama..lol. Then we would only need to deal with a phone call here and there. But I don't know, I like it here over all, just when these tantrums come up, and it's all thrown in my face again. Grrr....

Karma will get them back. You just stick to your guns and do what you know is best for your family. And in 3 years when they refinance and you are close to paying off your mortgage and debt... you can just grin.

Kudos to you. :)

I can so relate! It my own brother though. Since he has gotten married, he has become soooo uppity. I just let him blow his own steam. Even my SIL just rolls her eyes sometimes.

The ONLY time I will not control my tongue is when he involves comments re my DS! My DS is lacking for nothing! It is material wealth that makes him happy, and he certainly knows the value of a dollar.

So, other than that, I just yes him to death. Oh yes you are wonderful and blah, blah, blah......

My thought is if he thinks he is so much better than me, then he'll leave me alone. LOL it is working too ;)

Yeah, I know. Karma wins in the end. I won't say nothing, but I WILL have a mortgage burning party!!! I can be debt free in my 30's and THAT is something worth celebrating :) Be darned what anyone else says. But we'll have done in on an income that consists of ONLY 5 DIGITS, so SIL can take her 6 figure income and STUFF IT.
